S. Jersey Boys: S.J. boys: Camden Catholic cruises in playoff opener

Second-seeded Camden Catholic jumped on visiting No. 15 Bishop Ahr early and cruised to a 62-48 victory Tuesday in the first round of the South Jersey Non-Public A tournament.

The Irish outscored the Trojans 27-10 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Courtney Cubbage led Camden Catholic with 19 points. Demola Onifade added eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Jamal Parker scored 15 with seven assists.

Camden Catholic will play either Red Back Catholic or Immaculata, who play Wednesday, on Thursday.

Gloucester Catholic 66, Donovan Catholic 58 - Matt Green's 23 points helped No. 6 Gloucester Catholic to its first playoff victory in three years. Austin Regan finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

South Jersey Group 3 First Round

No. 10 Ocean City nipped host No. 6 Oakcrest, 49-46, behind 20 points by Garrett Jones. Jones was 10 for 11 from the line. Vernon Burch had 14 points and seven assists for Ocean City.

Delsea 80, Camden County Tech 53 - Keith Braxton had 23 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals as the top-seeded hosts rolled. Kwame Morton added 15 rebounds, seven rebounds and five steals for the Crusaders. Earon Trowery scored 28 points for the Warriors.

Timber Creek 78, Cumberland 55 - Maurice Murray scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half for the fourth-seeded hosts against the No. 13 Colts. Randy Bell and Caleb Bowser scored 13 points apiece, and Dikenba Amugo had eight boards and five blocks for the Chargers. Joseph Boose scored 17 points for the Colts.

Moorestown 44, Mainland 17 - Dan Dyer drained three three-pointers en route to 13 points, and the host seventh seed Quakers topped the 10th-seeded Mustangs.

South Jersey Group 1 First Round

Brandon Hamilton scored 16 points, and Theo Holloway added 14 in No. 1 Paulsboro's 89-42 win over visiting, No. 16 Gateway. Dan Teschko paced the Gators with 17 points.

Penns Grove 90, Clayton 89 - Kyle Goodson scored 23 points, and KyLee Ridgeway had 14 as No. 2 Penns Grove held off No. 15 Clayton. Michael Gibson (28 points) and Donovan Simon (22 points) led Clayton.
