Haddon Township's Petela advances to nationals

Luke Petela qualified for nationals by taking second place in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional boys' cross-country race Saturday at Van Cortland Park in New York.

Luke Petela qualified for nationals by taking second place in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional boys' cross-country race Saturday at Van Cortland Park in New York.

Petela, a Haddon Township senior, completed the 3.1-mile course in 15 minutes, 33 seconds. He will race at nationals Dec. 13 in San Diego.

The top 10 finishers advanced.

Bishop Eustace's Shawn Hutchison placed 10th in 15:46. Alex Ostberg, of Darien in Connecticut, won in 15:18.

Timber Creek's Dominick Munson, a senior, was 23d with a time of 16:03.

In the girls' race, Ocean City senior Devon Grisbaum ran a time of 18:51 for 22d. Brianna Schwartz, a senior from Shaler Area in Pittsburgh, took first in 17:36.
