Down by a point with 12 minutes to play, the Clayton football team faced a fourth and 1 from its own 16-yard line. During the timeout between the third and fourth quarters, coach Marvin Tucker made a big gamble and decided to go for the first down.

The payout was just as big.

Juwan Carr broke free for an 84-yard touchdown run and the go-ahead score, and Clayton won at Maple Shade, 26-20, in a WJFL interdivisional game Saturday.

Tucker said the extra time between quarters contributed to the decision to keep his offense on the field.

"My guys were saying 'We can get this. We can get this,' " Tucker said.

Carr finished with 17 carries for 181 yards and three touchdowns.

Elijah Rehm later returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown. That proved to be the winning score.

In other WJFL interdivision games:

Nick Thevanayagam rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another as Cinnaminson, ranked No. 22 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, won at Lawrence, 35-13.

Joey Foga hauled in a 50-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 45-yard run, and host Florence took down Pitman, 31-8.

Luke Cornelius rushed for two touchdowns in No. 8 West Deptford's 41-0 victory at Woodbury.
