S. Jersey Girls: Wed. S.J. girls: Alston comes through for Highland

Jaclyn Alston is finally healthy, and Highland profited from her play Wednesday afternoon. Alston scored late in the second half to break a tie and give the host Tartans a 4-3 win over GCIT in a back-and-forth Tri-County Royal girls' soccer game.

The junior is coming off a season in which she tore an anterior cruciate ligament during the team's fifth game. In her freshman season, Alston was sidelined from the beginning with the same injury.

"It's great to have her healthy," Highland coach Tiffany Strauss said. "She is an elite player."

Gabrielle Fanfarillo got GCIT on the board first, but Alston tied it with three minutes left in the first half. After intermission, Haley Evans put the Cheetahs ahead. Gianna DiPierro followed up with a goal to even the score, 2-2.

Kalin Priest gave Highland its first lead, scoring off an assist from Lauren Hoelke. But the Cheetahs struck again, this time on a goal by Camryn Tirado.

With the game 3-3, Alston scored with four minutes left.

Elsewhere in the Tri-County Royal:

Kingsway and visiting Clearview tied, 0-0, behind solid showings from both goalkeepers. Mauri Jackson made 17 saves for the Dragons. Tracey Milden registered three saves for the Pioneers.

Olivia DeCaro, Susirose DiCastelnuovo, Hannah Urban, and Destiny Wiatr scored in Triton's 4-1 win at Hammonton. Paige Bergman had a pair of assists.

Cape-Atlantic American. Samantha Price scored the winner in Millville's 2-1 victory over Mainland at home.

Amber Raines had the assist. Abby Daigle scored a first-half goal.

Burlington County Liberty. Cassy Skelton made six saves in Holy Cross' 2-0 shutout of visiting Northern Burlington.

Morgan Morocco scored off an assist from Caroline Eckerle, and Erica Wallace added a goal.

Colonial Conference Patriot. Emily Atkinson and Rebecca Martin each scored twice as Woodbury blanked host Paulsboro, 4-0.

Field Hockey

Jane Donio-Enscoe led Hammonton with four goals as the host Blue Devils defeated Triton, 8-0, in a Tri-County Royal game.

Burlington County Patriot. Savannah Cantera scored the winner in Holy Cross' 3-2 victory at Delran. Tatum Dougherty and Jackie Wood had the other Lancers goal.

Tennis

Lenape captured its first Burlington County Open championship, earning a one-point victory over Moorestown Friends at Moorestown High.

Gabrielle Shvartsman and Alexis Cao took home a victory for the Indians in first doubles. In second doubles, Serena Lam and Cailyn Chow's win clinched the team title for Lenape.

Grace Kim won at first singles for Moorestown Friends, defeating Cherokee's Amelia Ying, 6-0, 6-3.
