Deptford hires Crowley as football coach

Chris Crowley said he was "energized" by a year away from football.

Crowley will be back on the sidelines next season, as he was named coach at Deptford on Wednesday night.

"It's a school with a lot of tradition," Crowley said. "The football program has had a lot of success. I'm excited to get involved."

Crowley coached Woodrow Wilson from 2008-11. His teams went a combined 21-20, with a 7-4 mark and the West Jersey Independence Division title in 2011.

Crowley was an assistant coach at Paul VI in 2012, then was out of football last season.

"It was the first time I was away from the game in a long time," Crowley said. "It energized me. I'm excited to get back."

Crowley replaces Mike Blackiston, who was not rehired after last season.

Deptford was 1-9 in 2013. The Spartans' last winning season came in 2006.

Crowley is a teacher at Woodrow Wilson. He has been hired as an adjunct coach but could land a teaching job at Deptford for next year.

Back chooses Rutgers. Junior Charles Snorweah, a speedy running back at Pennsbury in Bucks County, gave an oral commitment to Rutgers during a visit to the school Friday.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder carried the ball 145 times for 1,476 yards and 22 touchdowns in helping the Falcons to a 10-2 record last season.
