Spotlight on: Millville senior Antoine WhiteAntoine White knows the numbers.
"I was telling the guys," White said of his Millville teammates, " 'If we lose, we're only going to have two more practices in pads. If we win, we'll have four more.' To be keeping those kinds of numbers, it's crazy."
White, a senior at Millville, knows his career is entering its final days. But he also knows he has a chance to finish with a flourish.
Millville (7-2), the No. 4 seed, plays top-seeded Eastern (9-1) in the South Jersey Group 5 semifinals on Friday night.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive tackle, a Penn State recruit, has picked up his game in recent weeks. His 88-yard interception return for a touchdown fueled Millville's comeback for a 28-21 win over Hammonton on Nov. 8, and his hit on Williamstown quarterback Doug Banks helped set the tone in the Thunderbolts' 28-19 win over the Braves in last Friday's playoff opener.
"It's tempo," White said. "I'm feeling that sense of urgency."
White knows Millville's defense faces a tough challenge against an Eastern team that has been led by senior quarterback Tom Flacco, who has passed for 2,407 yards and 23 touchdowns.
"When you look at them, you see a No. 1 seed," White said. "We have to play our best football."
