Devon Bell knew he was close to 1,000 points.

He just didn't want to think about it.

"I knew I was nine points away," said Bell, Eastern's senior guard. "But I didn't want to jinx myself."

Bell reached the career milestone on Friday night with a two-handed dunk in an 84-60 victory over Timber Creek.

Bell finished with 23 points in that game, then added 16 - including four in the final 1 minute, 31 seconds - in a 55-54 victory over Bishop Eustace on Saturday.

"It was pretty nice," Bell said of the dunk that registered his 1,000th career point. "I was out in the clear. It was a great way to get it."

Bell said scoring 1,000 points was one of his goals when he began his career at Eastern.

"I was friends with [former Eastern star] Bobby Harris and he had a thousand, so I wanted to try to get 1,000 too."
