Fri. S.J. football roundup: Shawnee surges past Clearview

Fourth-seeded Clearview led by 18-15 before Shawnee ripped off three third-quarter touchdowns, two of them by DiOrio. Jake Parola also had a touchdown as the fifth-seeded Renegades (6-3) punctuated the upset. Clearview beat Shawnee, 20-16, in the regular season.

Tony Darpino had a 50-yard touchdown for the Pioneers (5-4).

S.J. Group 5 Quarterfinals

Southern Regional blocked an extra point try with 3 minutes, 13 seconds remaining and held on to beat host Washington Township, 33-32. Abe Gonzalez led sixth-seeded Southern with four touchdown runs.

Thomas Hildebrand threw for four touchdowns for the third-seeded Minutemen (7-2).

S.J. Group 3 Quarterfinals

Cappadona Miller finished a big night with a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown as visiting, sixth-seeded Bridgeton stunned No. 3 Barnegat with an 18-17 comeback victory. Miller, who also caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Nazir Williams, had three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Bulldogs (6-3) scored the final 18 points.

S.J. Group 2 Quarterfinals

Robert Cleveland broke a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown runs, and seventh-seeded Willingboro rallied for a 23-13 win at No. 3 Middle Township.

Middle Township (5-4) led, 13-9, heading into the fourth quarter on the strength of a Nigel Case 40-yard touchdown run.

Anthony Robbins scored on a quarterback keeper in the first quarter for the Chimeras (6-3).

West Deptford 31, Sterling 7 - Gerald Owens had 26 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns as the top-seeded Eagles' powerful ground game carried them past the No. 8 Silver Knights (4-5).

Connor Smith added 105 yards on 14 carries as the Eagles (9-0), ranked seventh in South Jersey by The Inquirer, took a step toward their sixth title since 2002.

S.J. Group 1 Quarterfinals

Fifth-seeded Paulsboro spoiled Gloucester's first home night playoff game with a 38-20 win.

Zack Funk and Deshaun Burgess each ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Red Raiders (7-2).

Ben Boyer led No. 4 Gloucester (7-2) with 110 yards rushing, 88 yards receiving, and two touchdowns.

C.J. Group 2 Quarterfinals

Justin McFadden ran for a touchdown and threw for another to lead Delran to a 33-14 win over visiting Bordentown, its first in the playoffs since 2008. Khalil Thomas and Mark Jukic had touchdown runs for the Bears (9-0), and Tim Macey caught a touchdown pass.

Tommy Walters had a 63-yard touchdown run for the Scotties (4-5), who made their first appearance in the sectional tournament since 1996.

Non-Public 2 Quarterfinals

Mike Davis' 1-yard touchdown run was the lone score for Gloucester Catholic (1-8) as the eighth-seeded Rams fell at No. 1 Immaculata, 47-6.

Nonleague

Ryan Noon threw a 41-yard touchdown pass and ran for two more scores as Pitman beat visiting Gateway, 36-22. Mark Camma caught a touchdown pass and ran for another for the Panthers (3-6). Gateway fell to 0-9.

Cherokee 34, Egg Harbor Township 6 - Trevor Osler connected on 11 of 15 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Chiefs (5-4) over the Eagles (4-5). Marc Woodard carried 18 times for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Burlington City 24, Salem 14 - Ajala Modraza's 6-yard touchdown run put the Blue Devils ahead for good in the third.
