Fri. S.J. boys' roundup: Moorestown coach registers 200th

Moorestown baseball coach Bill Donoghue celebrated his 200th victory on Friday, with Chance Embler's grand slam igniting a seven-run second inning that sent the host Quakers past Pemberton, 16-4, in the Burlington County League.

Donoghue has amassed a 200-116 career record during his 17 seasons at Moorestown.

The Quakers (4-5) rewarded their skipper with one of his least-stressful victories, banging out 14 hits in scoring in double digits for the first time this season with Embler, a senior outfielder, batting 5 for 5 with six RBIs and three runs scored.

In another Burlco game, Kevin Smith batted 3 for 3, knocked in five runs and scored twice to highlight New Egypt's 17-3 romp at Westampton Tech.

Cape-Atlantic. Buena, ranked No. 4 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, appeared to be on the verge of a comeback win in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Chiefs had pushed across a run and had the bases loaded with two outs, but St. Joseph shortstop Jordan Barbone made a diving catch of Matt Luisi's line drive to short left field, sealing the Wildcats' 3-2 road upset.

St. Joseph did all of its scoring in the third inning, including Bill Bendig's two-run home run, and Andrew Ordille scattered four hits in going the distance for the victory.

Zack Vogelei singled in two runners in a three-run fifth inning rally, and Middle Township added two more runs in the sixth to complete its 6-2 comeback win at Lower Cape May.

Olympic. Zach Ellen roped a walk-off double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, helping host Cherokee outlast Lenape, 4-3.

Tri-County. Elliott McCummings (2 for 2, 4 RBIs, 2 runs) and Pat Kane (2 for 4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) fueled an 11-hit attack that carried second-ranked Gloucester Catholic past visiting Williamstown, 12-2.

Jake Danner launched a two-run home run over the fence in left-centerfield in finishing with two hits and four RBIs, and Zach Funk also homered as GCIT crushed host Clayton, 12-2.

Matt Miniconzi drove in two runs, Frank Angeloni scored three times, and reliever Jay Smith induced a double play and a pop-up in the seventh to cement Highland's 6-2 home win over Gloucester.

Colonial. Ryan McGoldrick struck out six, walked one and yielded two hits in shutting down Collingswood, and Ryan Slevenski singled and tripled as host Sterling ran its record to 8-0 by pounding the Panthers, 10-0.

Keith Michalski picked up six RBIs on two of Audubon's four home runs, and the Green Wave scored 10 times in the fifth inning to roll, 20-1, at Lindenwold. Justin Jannetti and James Schroth also went deep in support of Kevin Terifay, who fanned 11 while limiting the Lions to three hits.

Tom Jakubowski hit a grand slam in driving in five runs, and Zach Moran roped a three-run double for West Deptford, which scored nine times in the second inning en route to an 11-1 win at Haddon Heights.

James Bickel made eight saves in shutting down host Cherry Hill West over the final three quarters, and Shawnee, ranked No. 8 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, found plenty of offense in running away to an 18-2 win in the Olympic Conference match.

The Patriot Division-leading Renegades (4-4 overall, 4-0 conference) took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter, before Owen Demmerly (5 goals, 1 assist) got the attack on track. Cory Munger and Zach McHale each added a hat trick while Kyle Borbi and Jamie Jackopin combined for four goals and three assists.
