Wed. S.J. girls' roundup: Washington Twp. gives Lenape first defeat

Megan Tiernan scored two goals and assisted on five as Washington Township dominated an Olympic Conference battle of top lacrosse teams and handed host Lenape its first loss, 13-4, on Wednesday.

Christina Brennan and Nicole Tiernan added two goals each for the Minutemaids (5-2), ranked No. 4 in South Jersey by The Inquirer. Third-ranked Lenape (6-1) got two goals from Lizzie Duffey.

Also in the Olympic, Cherokee, ranked No. 9, got five goals from Christine DiLullo and edged host Cherry Hill East, 13-12.

Burlington County. Maple Shade rallied from a 6-4 second-half deficit to clip visiting Collingswood, 8-7. Samantha Reader tied the game with 5 minutes left and Nicole Rohm netted the winner with 2:28 to go.

Grace Steel's four goals and two assists combined with Anna Baranowski's four goals to offset an eight-goal game by Rancocas Valley's Alex Hlesciak and boost host Holy Cross to a 16-10 win.

Cape-Atlantic. Ocean City handed host Millville its first loss, 16-11, with Megan Devlin's five goals and Tess Solazzo's two goals and four assists.

Jill Sandilands and Gianna Giacinto provided solid defense, and Mainland got three goals each from Riley Dolan and Anna Gordon in an 11-9 win at Lower Cape May.

Sydney Ponto registered 10 strikeouts in five innings, allowing two hits while throwing West Deptford's 10-0 shutout against visiting Haddon Township in the Colonial Conference. Katherine Ziegler had three hits and two RBIs.

Olympic. Washington Township used a four-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat host Timber Creek, 7-1. Kristen Turner and Sarah Robertson each had a single and a two-run homer in support of Abria Tinsley's pitching.

Cherry Hill East's 10-0 win over visiting Pennsauken included Andi Leff's three-run homer to left field and Gabby Whiteley's four-hit pitching.

Burlington County. Stacie Johnson and Ariel Schuck each had three hits and a run batted in while supporting Brielle Morichetti's nine-strikeout pitching as Burlington City dealt host Delran a 4-2 setback.

Nonleague. Melissa Parker launched her fourth home run of the season, and Maddie Haftel went 3 for 3 with a double as Eastern knocked off visiting Williamstown, 5-0. Steph Vuono threw a five-hit shutout.

Winslow Township scored all of its runs in the first inning and Callia Abbott struck out 13 Bridgeton batters as the host Eagles prevailed, 7-3.
