Millville's McCarthy gets 100th coaching win

Millville girls' lacrosse coach Claudia McCarthy celebrated her 100th victory on Monday, when the visiting Thunderbolts buzzed Our Lady of Mercy, 15-4, in a Cape-Atlantic League match.

Corrine Etter totaled six goals and three assists, Macki Groves scored four times, and Megan Hoffman contributed two goals and five assists.

McCarthy has a 100-50-2 record over nine seasons.

In another Cape-Atlantic clash, Anna Gordon's four-goal, two-assist effort and 14 saves by Brianna Gertsel enabled host Mainland to edge Middle Township, 13-12. Maddy Anagnou scored four times for the Panthers.

Olympic. Senior Laurel Falana scored three times to boost her career total to 101 goals, highlighting Haddonfield's 21-1 romp over visiting Camden Catholic.

Gretchen Kiep's five goals led the Bulldogs' onslaught, which also featured hat tricks by Tenaya Clark, Carolyn Clark and Maddie Kiep.

Paige Paratore and Rachel Krott combined for nine goals to help West Deptford conquer host Kingsway, 13-10.

Burlington County. Rancocas Valley junior Alex Hlesciak continued her torrid scoring pace, pumping in seven goals - including the 100th of her career - in a 19-11 home win over Maple Shade.

Carleigh MacWilliams led Cinnaminson's balanced attack with five goals and Nicole Hoffmaster forced three turnovers as the host Pirates dumped Delran, 18-8.

Softball

GCIT's season-opening nine-game winning streak came to an end against Kingsway, which had Kelsey Dominik strike out 13 and limit the Cheetahs to one hit and four walks for a 4-0 Dragons road victory.

The Tri-County Conference inter-division showdown was tight until Kingsway broke through for three runs in the sixth off Erynn Sobieski, who allowed five hits and two earnes runs.

Colonial. Amanda Gardner's walk-off single drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as host Sterling slipped past Overbrook, 4-3.

Olympic. Lenape opened the bottom of the first inning with nine consecutive hits, as the Indians ran out to an 8-1 lead and coasted past visiting Cherry Hill East, 13-3.
