Sat. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: Woodbury over Lenape in OT

Mike Smith capped his 23-point performance by scoring all four of Woodbury's points in overtime, leading the Thundering Herd to a 47-45 home upset of fifth-ranked Lenape on Saturday in nonleague boys' basketball.

Evan Ward and Avery Brown combined for 26 points for the Indians (13-4), who were held to their second-lowest point total of the season.

Adonius Melvins (12 points) converted five free throws in the final 31 seconds, including a pair of foul shots with 9 seconds left that sealed Winslow Township's 67-66 come-from-behind win at Woodrow Wilson. Joseph Taylor produced 24 points, eight steals, four assists and two blocked shots and Mikal Harris totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers, who appeared to take control with a 27-11 third-quarter surge.

Camden County Tech earned its first sectional playoff berth in 10 years, as the Warriors evened their record at 9-9 with a 66-50 victory over visiting Northwest Prep. Devon Ellis had a game-high 17 points while Sam Rose and Armond Foster teamed up to total 31 rebounds and nine steals.

Ronny Paden (23 points) and Tyrell Maloney (21) had the hot hands for third-ranked Willingboro, which used a 44-18 spurt over the second and third quarters to pull away to a 71-50 win at No. 10 Westampton Tech.

Host Camden took apart Washington Township, 64-41, behind the interior play of Ajwan Leaming (10 points, 12 rebounds) and the perimeter shooting of Tavaris Headen (16 points), Thomas Harper (14), and Josh Devine-Minus (10).

Marc Schlessel and Jake Gurkin combined for 43 points, including 23 in a game-opening 28-9 spree that sent host Cherry Hill East to a 77-45 rout of Seneca.

Kyle Green got off to a fast start, pouring in 14 of his 30 points in the first quarter of Camden Catholic's 73-43 win over visiting Pennsauken.

Amanda Offenback became the first Holy Cross player in a decade to surpass 1,000 career points, when the senior forward scored 19 in a 65-53 win at Burlington County League rival Pemberton.

Aliyah Jeune (20 points) and Offenback, who has 1,009 points, ignited a 23-14 third-quarter run that allowed ninth-ranked Holy Cross to take command. Jasmine Smith (24) and Jasmine Poole (19) led the Hornets' attack.

Ann McGuire was the last Lancer to reach the milestone, in 2002.

Nonleague. Kelcie Evans of Moorestown Friends had 14 points to boost her career scoring total to 1,008, but - despite the efforts of Evans and Sophia Aguilar (18 points) - the Foxes didn't have enough firepower to prevent a 56-44 loss at Haddon Heights.

The Garnets received double-figure scoring from Nadja Riggs (18), Taylor Nichols (16), Desiree Rountree (12), and Devon Catts (10).

Brianna Wylie's 19 points led Lenape past visiting Middle Township, 40-30.

Nicolette Sarin of Washington Township recorded the highest series (625) of any area competitor, and in the process led the Minutemaids to a runner-up finish in the Group 4 South Sectionals at Laurel Lanes in Maple Shade.

A seventh-place overall finish qualified Sarin for the NJSIAA individual Tournament of Champions, which is scheduled for Feb. 15 at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick. Other local qualifiers were: Morgan Brown of West Deptford; Samantha Foster of Seneca; Victoria Gorman of Eastern; and Shawnee's Val Bilotti.

Group 1 champion Bordentown and runner-up Gloucester, as well as Group 2 runner-up West Deptford, will join Washington Township at the team Tournament of Champions on Feb. 13.
