Paulsboro wrestlers clinch division crown

Paulsboro wrapped up another Colonial Conference wrestling championship on Monday, clinching the Patriot Division trophy with a 64-9 success against visiting Overbrook.

Zach Funk started the match by getting a pin with 3 seconds left in his 195-pound bout, one of six Red Raiders pins.

Juan Rivera (132 pounds), Tom Paulsen (138) and Niko Savaiinaea (145) gave Paulsboro consecutive pins.

Tri-County. Gloucester handled visiting city rival Gloucester Catholic, 56-14, with a 19-3 technical fall by Ben Boyer at 152 pounds, and first-period pins by Diego Gonzalez (170) and Kyle Pollander (220).

Burlington County. Delran escaped with a 34-33 win at Northern Burlington with a pair of key 3-1 decisions by Colin Segan (126) and Anthony Lehmann (152).

First-period pins by Justin Kerr (113), Robert DiPierro (120), John Gravaner (132) and Chris Nitschmann (138) helped Bordentown sweep six bouts from 106 pounds to 138 in a 57-21 win over visiting Palmyra.

Brad Schwarze used 59 seconds to notch the fastest of New Egypt's five pins in a 47-18 win at Rancocas Valley.

Olympic. Cherokee's Jimmy Goldschmidt ran up a 16-4 major decision at 106 pounds, and Billy Lobosco (120) and A. J. Nicholas (160) won close decisions during the Chiefs' 52-19 win at Paul VI.

Nonleague. Seneca used pins in the upper weights from Nick Moore (170), Oliver Palumbo (182) and Adam Simpkins (195) to register a 42-27 triumph at Burlington Township.

 

Boys' Basketball

John Williams put back an offensive rebound with 4.9 seconds left in overtime to give Washington Township a dramatic 57-56 nonleague victory over visiting Deptford.

Township's Ryan Maiden (13 points) forced the extra period by making two free throws with 30 seconds left in regulation. Deptford's Nick Lawson took game scoring honors with 22 points, including five three-pointers.

Pitman whipped visiting Northwest Prep, 67-37, behind 22 first-half points from Tim Delaney (27), and Jon Boyd's 12 points and 9 assists.

Cape-Atlantic. Bridgeton's Karma Segers (19) broke a 60-60 deadlock on a three-point basket with 1:03 left that put the Bulldogs ahead to stay in a 68-64 win over visiting Vineland. Bridgeton made 26 of 38 foul shots, including 14 of 18 by Dontae Stubbs, who matched his season best with 27 points.

 

Girls' Basketball

Summer Crilley hit a 10-foot jump shot at the buzzer to give Holy Spirit a 55-53 win over visiting Atlantic City as the Spartans clinched the Cape-Atlantic League American Conference championship.

Crilley finished with 14 points, and teammate Gina Lewis had an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Vineland clipped host Bridgeton, 39-38, rallying from a seven-point first-quarter deficit behind Tanasia Russell's 10-point game.

Morgan Stefanski connected on a trio of three-point shots in a 19-point effort that aided Cedar Creek's 69-51 win at Buena. Kristine Miller led the Pirates with 15 points, and Buena's Jasmine Miro (15) had four threes.

Burlington County. Liberty Division leader Trenton Catholic edged Patriot Division front-runner Willingboro, 56-51, at Trenton. Isis Young had 23 points for the Iron Mikes, and Willingboro's sophomore center, Vanessa Francis, posted 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
