Tues. S.J. girls' roundup: Salem's Merritt earns 200th

Salem girls' basketball coach Steve Merritt celebrated his 200th win in style on Tuesday, with Kenya Woods' clutch foul shots down the stretch, helping the Rams outlast host Deptford, 46-42, in overtime.

Merritt owns a 200-137 record over 14th seasons - all at Salem.

Woods led all scorers with 18 points, including four free throws in the extra session. Ariana Slaughter added 4 of her 12 points in overtime for the Rams.

Immane Bussie picked up 10 of her 15 points to key Deptford's 18-6 fourth-quarter comeback in the nonleague thriller.

Tournament of Peace. Tori Smick poured in 26 points to earn most valuable player honors, and teammate Kayla Mayers recorded her fourth double-double in five games with 15 points and a dozen rebounds, carrying Woodstown to a 64-53 win over host Pitman in the championship game.

Boardwalk Classic. Tay-Tay Loatman's 10 points and five rebounds were just enough for Sacred Heart to slip past Middle Township, 40-37, in the championship of the John Carlson Bracket.

Kristine Miller totaled 22 points and 10 rebounds as Cedar Creek captured the Tom Jorgenson Bracket title by defeating Mainland, 49-41.

Morgan Stefanski added 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Pirates.

Simone Small came through with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots for Paul VI, which fell in the consolation, 30-26, to Pope John Paul II.

In the Kaitlin Anzelone Bracket semifinals, Serena Seijo led all scorers with 13 points and Jessica Freeman posted 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals to guide Wildwood past Hammonton, 32-23.

Cape May Tech suffered a 48-39 overtime loss to Lyndhurst, despite solid efforts by Alexis Olson (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Chelsea Marriner (12 points, 6 steals).

Audubon Tournament. Madison McClintock scored six of her game-high 14 points in the second quarter, putting Gloucester ahead to stay as the Lions doubled up host Audubon, 46-23.

Melissa Tarte battled inside for 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Cinnaminson got on an early roll in cruising past Moorestown Friends, 46-22.

Lenape Showcase. Rena Carabases (17 points) and Cierra Nichols (14) ignited a late Lenape surge as the host Indians pulled away from Freehold Boro, 52-37.

Sara Kramer's 16 points and a 13-4 third-quarter run were the difference, as Clearview surprised Cherokee, 36-31.

GCIT Tournament. Janay Smith got off to a fast start, scoring six of her 18 points in a game-opening 16-5 spree, and Buena never looked back in burying the host Cheetahs, 41-27. The Chiefs controlled the boards, with Caroline Santiago plucking 10 rebounds and Smith snaring eight.

Jackie McClellan made three shots from beyond the arc in scoring 14 points for Maple Shade, which had just enough offense to hold off Woodbury, 40-36. Bianca Joyner-Vila had a game-high 18 points for the Thundering Herd.

Burlington Township Tournament. The host Falcons soared past Florence, 68-30, behind Simi Adewumi's 16 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

Mount Holly Rotary. Taylor Umbrell (22 points), Aliyah Murray (21) and Crystal Cleveland (20) carried the day for Delran in a 69-50 semifinal win over Manalapan at Rancocas Valley.

Brianna Logan found her scoring touch in the second half, matching teammate Lauren Moses' 11 points in leading the host Red Devils past Bishop Eustace, 48-37. Jackie Brown had 20 points, including five treys, for the Crusaders.
