Mario Monfardini has been named the soccer coach at St. Augustine Prep.

Monfardini coached Sacred Heart the past two seasons. His teams went 35-5-1 and won two Cape-Atlantic National titles.

Monfardini replaces longtime St. Augustine coach Les Heggan, who stepped down.

Monfardini is a 1994 graduate of St. Augustine. He played on two state-championship teams.

He played college soccer at Lehigh University and continued his career with the New Jersey Stallions and Delaware Wizards of the United Soccer League.

"Mario is an excellent young coach who has an understanding of the rich tradition at St. Augustine," St. Augustine athletic director Tony Iaconelli said. "He is the perfect candidate to continue the model of consistency that Coach Heggan has set for the program."
