Tues. S.J. boys' roundup: Maple Shade advances in Group 1

Maple Shade scored twice in the final four minutes, tying it on Joe Ansbro's goal and then going ahead on Jesse Hamilton's header with 2 minutes, 22 seconds left, as the sixth-seeded Wildcats rallied past No. 2 seed Gateway, 2-1, on Tuesday in a NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 boys' soccer semifinal.

Anthony Colofranson's goal 11 minutes into the second half was the lone shot to elude Maple Shade goalie Shane Beavers (five saves).

In the other semifinal, Kevin Kaslowski had a hat trick and Zack Curl chipped in a pair of assists as top-seeded Haddon Township outscored No. 5 seed Glassboro, 5-3.

Sal Esgro scored twice for the Bulldogs.

South Jersey Group 2. Haddon Heights goalie Jon Weaver made 15 saves in recording his school single-season record 13th shutout, and Kevin Nelan scored early to send the third-seeded Garnets past No. 7 seed Delran, 1-0.

Alex Johnston put in a rebound of P.K. Schlitt's shot 35 seconds into overtime, giving top-seeded Haddonfield a 1-0 victory over No. 4 seed Middle Township.

Vincent DelDuca made four saves in shutting down the Panthers.

South Jersey Group 4. Mike Ryan picked up his 30th goal of the season when he connected off Ross Staudt's pass in the first half, but top-seeded Cherokee still needed Angelo Dambalas to bury a feed from Jason Spieker in the 65th minute to edge No. 5 seed Toms River North, 2-1.

After yielding a first-half goal, Barry Fitzgerald (seven saves) shut down the Mariners the rest of the way.

Next up for the defending champion Chiefs is the sectional final on Friday against No. 3 seed Tom River East.

The Raiders advanced by blanking seventh-seeded Clearview, 3-0 in a penalty-kick shootout, after the teams played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtimes.

Clearview rallied to tie when Chris Grabert set up Gavin Bright's goal with 15 minutes left in the second half. Steve Keane went the distance in goal for the Pioneers, turning aside 10 shots.

South Jersey Group 3. Alex Kourahanis opened the scoring 5 minutes into the match and senior midfielder Shane Fox celebrated his first varsity goal, as top-seeded Timber Creek parlayed a strong start into a 4-0 semifinal win over No. 5 seed Seneca.

Jeffrey Morgan had a goal and an assist, Giuseppe DeLuca also scored, and Sonimi Halliday chipped in a pair of assists. Andrew Garcia and Trevor Pierno split time in the net for the Chargers, who posted their 10th shutout of the season.

Central Jersey Group 1. Gui Carvalho scored twice and Harun Bozkurt contributed a goal and an assist, as top-seeded Burlington City took control early and cruised past No. 12 seed Manville, 6-1, in a semifinal.

Manuel Garcia, Omer Onal and Kermith Rummelle rounded out the scoring, while the Blue Devils also received assists from Joey Baer, Faruk Ozdemir and Valiant Cocchi.

The Blue Devils get to host Friday's sectional final against third-seeded Point Pleasant Beach.

Central Jersey Group 4. Rancocas Valley's improbable tournament run ended in the sectional semifinals when the 15th-seeded Red Devils were eliminated by another upstart, No. 14 seed Steinert, 2-0.

Ryan Sanders turned in a strong game in goal for Rancocas Valley, stopping 15 shots.

South Jersey Non-Public A. Fifth-seed St. Augustine failed to score for just the fifth time this season, when the Hermits fell, 5-0, in a semifinal at top-seeded Christian Brothers.

The Colts were led by Nick Vallani, who posted a hat trick and assisted on one goal.
