Fri. S.J. girls’ roundup: Minutemaids roll past Chiefs

The Minutemaids broke the game open in the second half to extend their winning streak to five, getting four goals apiece from Erin Waller and Brittany Bollendorf, and three goals from Lou Kalitz.

Lauren Karpovich added a hat trick for Cherokee.

In another Olympic Conference match, Laura Lesky and Taylor Donahue took turns picking apart the Sterling defense, as the pair netted six goals apiece in Seneca's 19-6 road win.

Burlington County. Rachel Ceplo of Delran scored the game-winner in overtime and players from both teams celebrated milestones, as the host Bears outlasted Holy Cross, 15-14.

Ally Stathius scored six times for Delran, including the 100th of her career, and Caitlin Chase also reached the 100-goal mark by netting four for Holy Cross.

Rachel Irons added four goals and Ceplo finished with two for the Bears. Jenn Graham matched Chase's four- goal effort, and Dorothy Westlake and Shelby Steadman each posted a hat trick for the Lancers.

Softball

Christina Austin's heads-up baserunning allowed her to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, capping host Washington Township's improbable 6-5 win over Bishop Eustace.

The Olympic Conference game was scoreless heading to the seventh, when the teams traded five-run rallies to send it to extra innings.

Abria Tinsley, who came on to pitch in the top of the seventh for the Minutemaids, tied it in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single.

In the ninth, Austin singled, moved to second on a bunt, took third on a passed ball, and raced home on an infield error.

Backed by Steph Wolfrom's two hits and two RBIs, Steph Vuono (five strikeouts, no walks) pitched Eastern to a 3-2 victory at Camden Catholic. Irish pitcher Laura Messina suffered the loss despite fanning 14.

Victoria Farrell shut down Winslow Township on five hits, and Stephanie Heresniak went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to key Paul VI's 7-0 road win.

Deanna Foley and Alyssa Stillwell combined for six hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored in Seneca's 17-5 romp at Pennsauken.

Colonial. Shaila Sweeney tossed a two-hit shutout, drove in a run, and scored once to carry Liberty Division-leading Haddon Heights to a 3-0 triumph over visiting Haddon Township.

Cape-Atlantic. Casey Serella batted 4 for 6 with four RBIs, including the game-winning hit in the ninth inning that lifted host Millville over Absegami, 6-5. Angela Jackson also had four hits and scored twice for the Thunderbolts.

Bridgette Alessandrini drove in five runs and Taylor Rizzotte scored three times to power host Hammonton past Lower Cape May, 12-2.

Burlington County. Taylor Schuck doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs for Burlington City, which pounded out 15 hits in a 17-0 win at Palmyra.

Tri-County. Shayla Giosia drove in four runs with two hits and scored three times, and Olivia Lawrence went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Gloucester Catholic's 12-2 triumph over visiting Penns Grove.

Brooke Coleman limited Wildwood to a pair of singles in pitching Pennsville to a 10-0 road win.
