Thurs. S.J. girls’ roundup: Haddonfield romps in lacrosse

Haddonfield's Lindsay Brophy got the party started early, opening the scoring with her 100th career goal, and the Bulldogs went on to crush host Collingswood, 18-4, on Thursday in Olympic Conference girls' lacrosse.

Brophy added three more goals, giving the senior attack a dozen this season. Caroline Pease also had four goals while Laurel Falana recorded a hat trick.

Burlington County. Cortney Natalicchio's five-goal, two-assist performance and a second-half surge allowed New Egypt to pull away to a 16-7 win at Northern Burlington.

Nicole Coyne added four goals for the Warriors, who led by just one at the half but went on to outshoot the hosts, 32-13. Emma Bunce scored four times, and Sam Washington made 15 saves for the Greyhounds.

Nonleague. Ally Stathius orchestrated Delran's offense, scoring five times and setting up six goals in a 15-9 home win over Middle Township. Grace Adelizzi's five goals paced the Panthers.

Softball

Despite losing her shutout bid in the seventh inning on a three-run home run by Chelsea Thomas, winning pitcher Sarah Almasy settled down to finish off fifth-ranked Sterling's 5-3 victory at Haddon Heights in the Colonial Conference.

Almasy also came through at the plate, going 3 for 3 with one run scored. The Silver Knights' 10-hit attack also featured Kylie O'Donnell knocking in two runs with a single and a double.

In other Colonial Conference action:

Jenna Hohnenberger retired a dozen batters on strikes and was credited with a perfect game as host Overbrook blanked Lindenwold, 21-0, in five innings.

Hohnenberger also starred at the plate, going 4 for 4 with five runs scored and three RBIs.

Alyssa Welsh struck out 11 in hurling a two-hit shutout, and Janelle Orsino batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs in Gateway's 3-0 win at Woodbury.

Burlington County. Led by Paige DeBow's 3-for-4, three-RBI performance, fourth-ranked Rancocas Valley rolled, 15-1, at Willingboro.

Manassa Blackwell drove in two runs with a pair of singles, and winning pitcher Shannon Sweeney roped a two-run base hit to carry host Florence past Bordentown, 6-1.

Katelyn Schatz singled twice and scored four times in Medford Tech's 24-3 romp at Palmyra.

Tri-County. Shilah Snead went 4 for 4, scored three times, and drove in a pair of runs; Tiffany Schemeley went 3 for 3 with one run and one RBI; and winning pitcher Kristen Knorr knocked in three runs with two hits as host Delsea drummed Deptford, 11-1.

Cape-Atlantic. Ariel Jackson stroked a run-scoring single, and Kristin Trout raced home on an error in Millville's two-run 10th-inning rally as the Thunderbolts went on to edge host Oakcrest, 5-4. The Falcons committed six errors in suffering their first loss of the season.

Freshman Rosie LaGrotta struck out 10 while scattering five hits and one walk, and Lindsay Dwyer and Tori Caterina combined for five hits and two RBIs, enabling Sacred Heart to hold off host Wildwood Catholic, 4-2.

Janessa Rios enjoyed a 3-for-3, two-run, three-RBI day at the plate in ninth-ranked Buena's 20-0 triumph at Pleasantville. Allison Collins yielded one hit while striking out five over three innings to earn the win.

Kelly Lupton pitched a one-hit shutout and keyed the Absegami offense, supplying two hits and three RBIs in an 11-0 whitewash of visiting Egg Harbor Township.

Nonleague. Kara Simon drove in five runs with a single, a double and a home run, and Sara Milharan struck out seven in tossing a two-hit shutout as host Camden County Tech cruised, 18-0, over Woodrow Wilson.

Sophomore Hunter Urban and freshman Alison Guldin combined on a one-hit shutout, including 13 strikeouts and no walks over five innings, as host Audubon made quick work of Camden Academy Charter, 18-0. Alex Gravinese and Sarah Urban each batted 3 for 3 with three RBIs.
