Wed. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: St. Augustine wins

St. Augustine got off to a strong start, winning three of the first four events, and the second-seeded Hermits went on to defeat No. 7 seed Don Bosco Prep, 100-70, Wednesday in a NJSIAA State Non-Public A boys' swimming quarterfinal.

After taking the 200-yard medley relay, St. Augustine built on its lead with wins by Pat Flynn (200 freestyle) and Mike McMenamin (50 freestyle).

Next up for the Hermits is a semifinal matchup with the winner of Thursday's meet between Christian Brothers and St. Peter's Prep.

Boys' Basketball

Isaiah Morton dished out eight assists to go with his game-high 24 points, and Charles Monaghan produced 19 points, seven rebounds, and five steals as host St. Augustine sailed past Atlantic City, 68-54, in Cape-Atlantic League action.

Garrett Kerr found his scoring touch early, scoring 13 of his 25 points in the first half to put host Middle Township on track for an 86-41 rout of St. Joseph.

Marcus Harmon (19 points), Shai Henry (16), and Dahshauyn Staten (11) also came up big for the Panthers, who closed the game on a 53-18 spree.

Matt Bosch and Chris Turner scored 21 points apiece as Ocean City outlasted host Millville, 60-55. Bishop Evans countered with 19 points for the Thunderbolts.

Vance Matthews tossed in 9 of his 21 points in the third quarter, enabling Lower Cape May to pull away from visiting Egg Harbor Township, 67-53. The Tigers placed four scorers in double figures, including George Moore (15 points), Bob O'Donnell (11) and Brandon Pascucci (10), to offset a 23-point effort by the Eagles' Richard Dukes.

Nonleague. Bryce Langlotz scored 9 of his 12 points from long distance and Drew Haines added 10 points, as Moorestown Friends parlayed a strong first half into a 41-34 victory at Pennsauken Tech. The Tornados' Pedro Jiminez led all scorers with 16 points.

Girls' Basketball

The trio of Kelsey Kennedy, Kristen Kocher and Erin Molina fueled a 20-8 fourth-quarter surge, carrying host Shawnee past Winslow Township, 50-47, and keeping the Renegades' title hopes alive in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division.

Kennedy led the way with 15 points, and Kocher and Molina added 11 apiece for Shawnee (8-1 division), which pulled within a half-game of first-place Timber Creek. Jada Matthews (19 points) and Tashay March (14) keyed the Eagles' long-range assault.

Cape-Atlantic. Julia Duggan came within a rebound of posting a triple-double as host Ocean City swamped Millville, 50-25. Duggan scored 14 points, dealt 10 assists, and cleared nine boards for the Red Raiders.

Kristine Miller's 16 points paced Cedar Creek to a 40-23 triumph at Pleasantville.

Taylor Reed totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds, Gina DiDomenico scored 11, and host Egg Harbor Township ran out to a 17-3 lead in leveling Lower Cape May, 39-16.

Nonleague. Emily Bausher (18 points) and Morgan Knigge (15) provided a potent one-two punch, powering New Egypt to a 38-28 win at Moorestown Friends. Kelcie Evans supplied half of the Foxes' scoring.
