Sat. S.J. wrestling roundup: Collingswood wins own Duals

Pequannock, which handed Cherokee (8-1) its first loss of the season, 33-32, in the semifinals, led Collingswood midway through the title match until Jim Hatzell earned a third-period pin at 140 pounds to put the Panthers ahead.

Venanzi won, 3-1, at 189 pounds and Swan (189 pounds) followed with an 8-4 verdict.

Also at Collingswood, Cherokee, ranked No. 5 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, took the third-place match, 35-30, over Northern Burlington. Jimmy Goldschmidt (103) and Drew Semiraro (130) posted key overtime decisions, and Jeremy Reese (189) and Mike Zeuli (215) added clinching pins.

Colonial. Haddon Township grabbed a pair of league wins with a 63-18 win at Sterling and a 59-20 victory over Gateway. The Hawks' Nicholas Weiss (119), Eric Rodriguez (130), Ron Hoover (140), Mike McCutcheon (145), and T. J. Hawn (171) had two pins each.

Olympic. Back-to-back first-period pins by Aaron Gomez (125) and Tommy Appleman (130) combined with Kevin Swenson's 15-0 technical fall to drive Cherry Hill East past visiting Paul VI, 50-21.

Nonleague. Sean Bonner's 34-second fall at 160 pounds was the fastest of eight West Deptford pins as the sixth-ranked Eagles whipped visiting Eastern, 57-15.

No. 10 Delsea swept a quad meet at Lower Cape May as Dylan Dobzanski (152) had three pins, and Doug Denny (125) and Matt Hennelly (130) each had two pins and a decision in the Crusaders' 51-27 win over Delran, 47-17 victory over Lower Cape May, and 42-19 win over Moorestown.

Pins by Lindenwold's Orlando Askie (152) and Tommy Mitchell (160) fueled a 61-18 victory at Palmyra. The Panthers' Matt Nagle had a 40-second fall.

New Egypt's Brad Schwarze (160) and Rigo Morfin (189) each had three pins as the host Warriors claimed a 49-24 win over Pennsauken, a 46-27 triumph over Middlesex, and a 39-27 win over Cherry Hill West. Matt Carr clinched the win against Middlesex with a first-period pin at 103 pounds for a 43-27 lead, and Carr, Tyler Miller (171), and Morfin had first-minute falls against West.

Cherry Hill West rebounded with a 43-28 success against Pennsauken and a 36-25 win over Middlesex. Against Pennsauken, Tyler Brake (112), Tyler Layton (140), Dominic Sparacio (152), and Evan Wayns (125) each registered Lions pins.

Millville won two of three matches on its home mats, dropping Mainland, 51-18, and adding a 46-27 verdict over Oakcrest. In addition, Clearview beat the Thunderbolts, 37-29, as the Pioneers' Alex Moncher (112), John VanBrill (119), and Andrew Hugles (171) scored pins.

For Millville, Jake Martin (103), Chad Kahn (112), Daireck Hatton (130) and Jeremy Wilson (285) had pins during the two victories.
