2 wins at Duals for Cherry Hill West

The Lions (7-2), who went 3-2 in the event, got first-period pins in the last two weights against Oakcrest by Brian Smolsky (215 pounds) and Zac Tomaino (285) to rally from a 32-27 deficit.

Smolsky, who also had a first-period fall in West's 58-23 win over Williamstown, used just 16 seconds to get his pin and put the Lions in the lead.

Teammate Tyler Brake had an 18-second pin at 112, and Mike Marini salvaged an important 6-5 decision over Kevin McGloin at 135.

Also at St. Augustine, Absegami won twice, including a 31-30 verdict over the host Hermits and a 50-17 win over Burlington Township. Against St. Augustine, Brandon Goldberg (112) had a 3-2 decision, and John Willette (135) and Alex Gong (171) won decisions by two-point margins.

West Deptford, ranked No. 6 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, whipped Northern Burlington, 53-19, as Frankie Willerton edged Jordan Herelle, 8-7, in a feature bout at 189.

Virginia Duals. In its semifinal match in the prestigious tournament at Hampton, Va., Haddonfield suffered a 38-26 loss to Columbia (Va.).

The Bulldogs, who also beat Lexington (S.C.), 39-30, and were guaranteed not to finish worse than fourth in the 16-team field, got a quick pin by Kyle Klaus (112) and Carson Stack (215) rolled up a 29-14 technical fall.

Camden Catholic, Eastern, and Timber Creek each won second-round consolation matches.

The Irish beat Middletown (Pa.), 41-30, with a 2-1 decision by T.J. Miller (140) and a 20-second pin by Aaron Lambert (135). Timber Creek edged St. Mark's (Del.), 34-25, with seven wins in eight bouts from 103 pounds to 145, and Eastern topped Lake Braddock (Va.), 48-21, as Conner Green (189), Michael Gill (215), Trevor Cetrullo (285), and Jake Manelis (103) had consecutive pins.

Nonleague. Unbeaten Cherokee (7-0), ranked No. 7, dominated Millville, 52-15, and also whipped Shawnee, 51-21, as Ben Fanjoy (160), Paul Sims (171), Jeremy Reese (189) and Steve Nastasi (145) each registered two pins.

Shawnee dumped Millville, 47-25, with technical falls by Austin Wetterau (140) and Matt Darnall (171).

Bishop Eustace swept a quad meet at Overbrook, including a 42-36 thriller over Haddon Heights that was clinched by Matt Lenihan's 57-second pin in the final bout at 125. The Crusaders opened the meet with four straight falls by Jason Gallagher (130), Marco Rodis (135), Ian Moy (140), and Zach Ogle (145).

Eustace also scored a 45-30 win against the host Rams, and a 58-12 win over Palmyra. Moy notched three pins, including two in less than a minute.

Also at Overbrook, Haddon Heights defeated Overbrook, 48-25 and added a 69-12 win over Palmyra as Dom Colon (140), Alex Thompson (215) and Ryan Thompson (285) each won twice.

Lenape's 39-30 win over Seneca was the highlight match of a double-dual meet at Lenape. The Indians got first-period pins by Austin Wright (112), Danny Kennedy (119), and Zach Ubaldini (130) in a four-bout stretch, and Doug Gilbert (285) had the season's fastest pin with an eight-second effort.

Lenape also whipped Sterling, 69-6, and Seneca defeated Sterling, 69-12.

Rancocas Valley scored a pair of easy wins on its home mats, stopping Riverside, 75-6, and adding a 49-28 verdict over Woodstown. The Red Devils' Anthony Pagan had a 9-7 decision and a first-period pin in his 135-pound matches.

Bordentown improved to 8-0 with a 52-10 win over Hamilton West and a 38-26 triumph over host Allentown. Matt Bauer (215) and Zach Tilghman (285) had two pins each, Chris Nitschmann (125) and Shawn Gavin (140) each had a technical fall and a decision, and James DiPiero (145) and Drew Pedersen (152) each had a pin and a major decision.

In a double-dual match at St. John Vianney, New Egypt escaped with a 37-36 thriller over Delran.

The Warriors built a 16-0 lead before the Bears reeled off six straight wins for a 30-16 lead, including pins by Kevin Pfeffer (140), Travis McDowell (145), and Mark Denny (152). The Warriors came back with a fall by Tyler Miller (189) and a clinching 8-2 decision by Rigo Martin (215).

Delran rebounded with a 51-30 win over Middletown North, aided by lower-weight pins by Jordan Weaver (112), Mike Gericke (119) and Doug Denny (125).
