Wed. S.J. wrestling roundup: C.H. East edges Eastern

Eastern (5-3) took a 7-0 lead before the Cougars (2-1) reeled off five consecutive falls from Andrew Foy (152 pounds), Erdong Chen (160), Carmen Ditore (171), Brian Lussier (189) and Dishi Goto (215).

When Boardman outlasted the Vikings' Jake Backal, 5-4, at 125, East grabbed a 36-25 advantage with two weights left, but when Eastern's Louis Mueller edged East's Tommy Appleman, 5-4, at 130, it allowed the Cougars to clinch the victory.

Also in the Olympic, Cherokee spotted host Washington Township a 24-3 lead before winning the last eight bouts and claiming a 42-24 triumph.

Sam Savoia (145), Jake Borys (152) and Mike Cascio (160) started the Chiefs' comeback with first-period pins, and D.J. Mele edged Matt Salera, 2-0, in a feature bout at 125.

Seneca converted major decisions by Kyle O'Neill at 130, Jordan Peoples at 135 and Declan Deveney at 171 into a 41-24 triumph over visiting Paul VI. Nick Moore (160) and Hunter Pepper (215) each had 47-second pins for the Golden Eagles.

Pennsauken dominated the upper weights, getting pins by Peter Hoang (152), Jairo Padilla (160), Peter Ibrahim (171), Byron Rozier (189) and Hendrickson Tineo (215) during a 42-28 win over visiting Shawnee.

Pins by Austin Wright (112), Danny Kennedy (119), Joe Amoriello (135), Matt Jolly (160) and Alex Felderstein (189) powered Lenape's 60-19 triumph over visiting Bishop Eustace.

Camden Catholic whipped host Camden, 69-6, as Matt McBride (152) had the fastest of five Irish pins with a 26-second fall at 152. In the closest matchup, Marcus Coleman edged Camden's Andrew Stevens, 1-0, at 285.

Colonial. Audubon won five of eight contested bouts, including Tim Anstotz's 37-second pin at 140 pounds and Markos Georges' 19-2 technical fall at 135, en route to a 53-17 victory at Gateway/Woodbury.

Tri-County. Clearview's Ronald Mestichelli secured a technical fall as time expired in his 103-pound bout, and Dan Garwood edged Kingsway's Kyle Lloyd, 5-3, in a feature bout at 285, highlighting the host Pioneers' 45-21 win.

Anthony Whitlock's 7-5 decision at 140 pounds gave Highland the lead for good at 6-4, leading to a 51-13 win at Cumberland. Also for the Tartans, Nick Fillipo (119) got a third-period reversal to edge the Colts' Dominic Pizzo, 7-5, and Bill Henry (103) and Dylan Mesing (112) had second-period pins.

Cape-Atlantic. Mainland controlled the middle weights, winning five of six bouts from Garrett Ewing's pin at 119 pounds to John Fitzpatrick's 9-3 decision at 145, and the Mustangs edged visiting Atlantic City, 38-35. Kyle Bender added a 44-second pin at 125.

Tom Gattinella hurried to a 21-second pin at 112 pounds, punctuating St. Augustine's 53-23 win at Oakcrest. The Hermits also benefitted from consecutive first-period falls by James Bennett (152) and Adam Schroeder (160).

Nonleague. Davonte Jones scored a 9-4 decision at heavyweight to give Burlington City a 35-24 lead, and the host Blue Devils held on for a 35-33 win over Colts Neck. Scott Monroe's pin at 135 was part of City's 22-0 run from 130 to 145.

Back-to-back pins by Pemberton's Freddy Gomez at 145 and Austin Walsh at 152 were not enough to prevent the host Hornets' 51-27 loss to Allentown.
