Cherokee's Lacy edges Highland's Venables for third at N.Y. cross country

Megan Lacy of Cherokee edged out Highland's Megan Venables for third place in the 2010 Foot Locker Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Sunken Meadow Park in Kings Park, N.Y.

Aisling Cuffe (17 minutes, 51 seconds) from Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, and Abbey Leonardi (18:02) of Kennebunkport, Maine, finished one-two in the girls' race for the second consecutive year. Lacy took third in 18:08, followed by Venables in 18:11.

Paul Szulewski (16:19, 20th place) from Williamstown was the highest-finishing local runner in the boys' race, which was won by Chad Noelle (15:42) from Greene, N.Y.

The top 10 boys and girls qualified to compete in the Foot Locker National Finals on Dec. 11 in San Diego.
