Sat. S.J. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Absegami upends Timber Creek

Next up for the 11-1 Braves is a quarterfinal date with third-ranked Paul VI on Oct. 24.

Tri-County. Maxie New's hat trick gave the sophomore forward 20 goals on the season, and host Clayton raised its record to 13-1 by defeating Glassboro, 6-1.

Nonleague. Amanda Martinez put fifth-ranked Williamstown ahead in the 48th minute, and Ashley Winkelspecht (three saves) made the lead stand up in a 1-0 win at Ocean City.

Boys' Soccer

Holy Cross won a battle of Burlington County League Patriot Division contenders, 3-0, at New Egypt. Kyle Semmel scored the Lancers' first two goals of the game, and goalie Mario DeClerico made three saves for the shutout.

Kevin Cueva's pass set up a hard shot by Bobby Soracklin that found the net from 20 yards out early in the second half, lifting Rancocas Valley past visiting Northern Burlington, 1-0.

Jon Vassolotti and Jesse Hamilton scored goals 17 minutes apart in the second half, steering Maple Shade past host Palmyra, 2-0.

Field Hockey

Ashley Walters scored twice in the first half and Jordan Calderone put in a pair of goals in the second half, pacing host Collingswood past Lindenwold, 5-0, in a Colonial Conference match.

Olympic. Kayla Bruhn's insurance goal - on a penalty stroke with just under 10 minutes to play - allowed Cherry Hill West to hang on for a 3-1 victory at Winslow Township.

Nonleague. Nicole Scaramella had two goals and Moira Penza contributed a goal and two assists, powering host Bishop Eustace over Gloucester Catholic, 7-0.

Lindsey Hatch and Molly Molner each scored twice and Erin Waller had a pair of assists in leading host Washington Township past Williamstown, 7-0.

Stephanie Schmitt (four saves) shut down Bridgeton, and host Clayton erupted for three goals in the second half to pull away to a 3-0 win.

Girls' Volleyball

Williamstown improved to 19-2 with a pair of victories at Southern Regional.

Brooke Hassan totaled five aces and 19 assists while Kelsey DiVirgilio contributed nine kills and 14 digs in helping the Braves battle past Southern, 16-25, 25-15, 25-12.

Williamstown swept its other match, 25-10, 25-13, over East Brunswick. Kat Wolf had eight assists and Gabby Farquharson delivered eight kills for the Braves.
