Tues. S.J. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Lacy, Lenape are race winners

Lacy covered the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 34 seconds - nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Natalia Ocasio (19:33) of Lenape.

Yet the team title was decided when Kiersten Campbell (21:05) of Lenape edged out Cherokee's Alyssa Litty (21:12) for ninth place, giving the Indians five runners among the first nine finishers.

In the National Division championships, race winner Holly Bischof (19:54) led Bishop Eustace to a sweep of the top five spots and the team crown.

The boys' National Division title also went to Bishop Eustace, with the Crusaders' Ron Griswold (16:36) leading the pack across the finish line.

Boys' Soccer

Sacred Heart watched a 3-0 halftime lead disappear, but Nick Gazzara completed a hat trick 1:06 into overtime to give the Lions a 4-3 Cape-Atlantic League win at Middle Township.

Middle's Graham Deever tied the game on a penalty kick with 3:43 left in regulation before Gazzara scored on a shot from outside the box into the upper corner of the net.

Wildwood Catholic also needed overtime to produce a win, clipping visiting Buena, 3-2, when Jon Gery converted a penalty kick 3:35 into the extra period after being pulled down in the box on a breakaway. Gery had three goals.

St. Augustine knocked off host Oakcrest, 3-0, with goals by Connor Hurff, Christian Gill and Taylor Hurff. Hermits goalie John Richards made six saves.

Tri-County. Shaune Gorman's three goals and one assists fueled Pennsville's 4-1 victory over visiting Wildwood.

Clayton's 7-0 win over visiting Gloucester featured two goals each by Dean Davidson and Dan Reed, and two assists by Joe Roche.

Girls' Soccer

Meagan Thornton had a goal and an assist in the first half, putting host Millville on track for a 2-0 victory over Egg Harbor Township in the Cape-Atlantic League.

Courtney Cain opened the scoring less than eight minutes into the match when she deposited a pass from Thornton. The Thunderbolts' lead grew to 2-0 when Thornton scored off an assist by Mallori Higbee with just under 15 minutes to go before intermission.

Millville goalie Megan Tozer stopped four shots in recording the shutout.

Tri-County. Freshman Janine Forte orchestrated the Pitman attack, contributing a goal and three assists in a 4-1 victory at Salem.

Becca Barb converted a penalty kick midway through the first overtime period, making Kingsway a 1-0 winner at Cumberland. Maria Kirby stopped six shots in going the distance for the shutout.

Alex Smith's hat trick and Brielyn Hackett's pair of goals powered Pennsville to a 10-0 triumph at Wildwood.

NJTAC Tournament. Jaxmine McNeill scored twice in a six-goal first-half blitz, and host Westampton Tech held on to defeat Camden County Tech, 6-3, in a first-round match.

Field Hockey

Taylor Kennedy tallied twice and set up one goal for Haddon Township, which jumped on top early and cruised to a 5-1 win at Colonial Conference rival Gateway.

Brelyn Howard chipped in a pair of assists in support of Hawks goalie Kaitlyn Brendlinger (six saves).

Cape-Atlantic. Casey Derella collected two goals and two assists while Corrine Etter scored twice, as Millville racked up 28 shots on goal en route to a 6-0 romp at Absegami.
