St. Augustine trio make Division I lacrosse commitments

Three lacrosse players from St. Augustine, including two juniors, have made oral commitments to Division I schools. According to coach J.C. Valore, senior attack Nikko Pontrello will attend Loyola University. Nikko's brother, junior midfielder Steve Pontrello has committed to the University of North Carolina.

Junior midfielder Tommy O'Neill has made an oral commitment to Penn State.

Nikko Pontrello, an Inquirer second-team all-South Jersey selection who had 36 goals and 59 assists last season, also considered Maryland and Fairfield

Steve Pontrello, an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey choice who had 48 goals and 13 assists, considered Maryland, Princeton and Loyola.

According to Valore, O'Neill was also considering Maryland, Princeton, Notre Dame and Loyola. O'Neill had 12 goals in seven games after transferring from Seneca.

St. Augustine (19-3) was The Inquirer's No. 1 South Jersey team last season, and the Hermits remain among the state's top teams this season.
