Tues. S.J. girls’ roundup: Burlington rolls to first win

But on Tuesday the Blue Devils broke out in a big way and picked up their first win when Victoria Vasapolli scored six times in a 7-2 triumph at Palmyra in a Burlington County League match.

Samantha Astley also scored in support of City keeper Chelle Mazzella, who stopped six shots to earn the victory.

Tri-County. Gloucester Catholic took command in the Diamond Division, using four second-half goals to put away host Deptford, 4-0.

Abbey Zweigle, Lauren Wilson, Maddie Hogan, and Kelly Kane scored, while Jessica Kupcha made five saves for the Rams, who are 4-0 in division play. Deptford (2-1) hung tough behind the goalkeeping of Robyn Franchi (14 saves).

Clearview took over sole possession of first place in the Royal Division with a 2-0 win over visiting Highland.

Nicole Zammarrelli soared over taller defenders to head in a corner kick sent into the box by Staci Clendening to cap the scoring. Lauren Rothstein converted a feed from Gina Thomas for the other Pioneers goal.

Host Williamstown slipped to second in the Royal after playing Kingsway to a scoreless draw. Ashley Winkelspecht made five saves for the Braves, while Kingsway keeper Maria Kirby turned aside 14 shots.

Meghan Brown deposited Caroline Hoffman's corner kick to open the scoring 10 minutes into the match, and host Pitman added four goals in the second half to put away Gloucester, 5-0. Kaileen Banks put in a pair of direct kicks, Janine Forte cashed in on a breakaway, and Allyson Franchi received assists from Sara Walz and Maura Godfrey to key the Panthers' second-half surge.

Lauren Whelan converted a pass from Megan Smith in the first half and Amber Glenning made the lead stand up, stopping a dozen shots as Cumberland clipped host Delsea, 1-0. Whelan, who snuffed out a breakaway, saw her counterpart Chelsi Biener come through with 16 stops for the Crusaders.

Clayton ran out to a 3-0 first-half lead in slamming host Salem, 5-1. Maxie New scored twice, while Morgan Durham, Kelsey Green, and Devon Horner each chipped in a goal.

Cape-Atlantic. Cassidy Walsh was perfect in the nets, and Holy Spirit used goals by Christina Dalzell, Sarah Marakos, and Melissa Nurmant to bounce host Buena, 3-0.

Nonleague. Delran struck for a pair of first-half goals and held on to defeat host Peddie School, 2-0. Gabby McIntyre and Melissa Seidner supplied the scoring, and Daniella Kelly made five saves to earn the shutout.

Field Hockey

Jamie Robinson's four-goal, one-assist performance paved the way for West Deptford's 9-0 romp at Overbrook in Colonial Conference action.

Rachel Krott added two goals and an assist, and Amanda Hojnowski scored twice for the Eagles, who unleashed 32 shots on goal.
