Sat. S.J. football roundup: Five TDs for Eagles’ Scott

Scott, a senior running back, rushed for 171 yards and four TDs.

After a scoreless first quarter, the game took on more urgency when Scott took a handoff 14 yards to the end zone. Haddon Heights answered immediately, with Mike Pitts tying it on a 98-yard kickoff return.

But the Eagles took over from there, as Scott reeled off three more TDs before halftime - including runs of 41 and 21 yards, followed by the punt return.

Darius Jones gave Haddon Heights something to cheer about by recording 14 tackles.

Paulsboro 40, Haddon Township 0 - Senior two-way starter Kyre Victor had a pair of touchdown catches and intercepted a pass, and Aaron Tilden ran for two scores as the host Red Raiders (1-0, 1-0) opened their season with a Colonial Conference Patriot Division rout.

Haddon Township (0-1, 0-1) faced a 27-0 deficit in the first quarter, thanks in part to TD runs by Eric McMullen (48 yards) and Tyree Ellis (25 yards).

Cape-Atlantic

Junior quarterback Darryl Smith threw touchdown passes to three receivers, igniting a 41-point first half that propelled host St. Joseph past Middle Township, 55-0, in a Division III clash.

Senior Gordon Hill's 67-yard scoring jaunt was sandwiched by a pair of Smith TD strikes - 35 yards to Max Valles and 40 yards to Kaheem Reynolds - in the opening quarter.

Sophomore Anthony Giagunto added a pair of second-half TD runs to close out the romp for the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0). Middle Township (0-2, 0-1) has been outscored, 90-7, this season.

Nonleague

Junior running back Jimmy Hall rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, highlighting host Lower Cape May's season-opening 25-3 triumph over Cape Henlopen (Del.).

Junior quarterback Mike Mulligan directed the Tigers' attack, running for one score and tossing a 28-yard TD pass to Vance Matthews.
