Thur. N.J. football roundup: Woodbury tops Gateway to win title
Woodbury's defense secured its fifth shutout of the season, and Brian Purnell ignited the offense with two touchdown passes as the Thundering Herd clinched the Colonial Conference Patriot Division football championship with a 40-0 Thanksgiving Day win at Gateway.
Purnell completed six of nine passes for 124 yards, hitting Isaiah Roberts with a 46-yard TD strike and Dyshawn Davis with a 15-yard score.
Purnell, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior, also ran for 108 yarsd on just four carries, highlighted by a 77-yard sprint to the end zone.
Karon Gibson chipped in with two touchdown runs.
Overbrook 18, Lindenwold 14 - Mike Sloan scored on a 16-yard run with five minutes remaining for Overbrook's decisive score at Lindenwold (2-8).
On its final possession, the Lions drove deep into Overbrook territory but the Rams' Kyle Opher ended the threat with an interception at the 2-yard line.
For Overbrook (4-6), Dan Wilson completed 6 of 17 passes for 127 yards and also caught a touchdown pass from Sloan (18 carries, 71 yards rushing).
Lindenwold's Leon Jones passed for 140 yards on 10-for-27 marksmanship and returned an interception 85 yards for a TD, and Dominique Watkins ran for 63 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
Audubon 26, Haddon Township 0 - Audubon (5-5, 2-3) dominated the host Hawks (5-5, 2-3) as Brandon Hill connected with Chris Borgesi for 111 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Hill, who threw for 142 yards in the game, found Borgesi on TD tosses of 7 and 26 yards, and Borgesi also ran 2 yards for another score.
Brian Flacco contributed 89 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Haddon Township's Vince Sampoli collected 71 yards on the ground.
Haddonfield 26, Haddon Heights 7 - Haddonfield (10-1, 4-1), which will play for the South Jersey Group 2 crown next week, followed Phil Bhaya to a decisive win at Heights (6-4, 3-2) in the battle for second place in the Liberty Division.
Bhaya had 186 all-purpose yards, includin g a 51-yard touchdown run, and touchdown passes to J.P. Marquess, Matt Porter, and Chris Davis
Haddonfield leads the holiday rivalry, 54-41-6, since 1902.

Timber Creek clinched a share of the Liberty Division title with Seneca by edging visiting Triton, 13-6.
Standout linebacker Quinton Alston, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior, had eight tackles and two sacks as the Chargers (9-2, 4-1) tuned up for next Friday's Group 3 championship game by handcuffing Triton (2-8, 0-5).
Naquan Walker paced Timber Creek's offense with 13 carries for 108 yards, most coming on a 74-yard touchdown run, and Damiere Byrd scored the first TD on a 47-yard dash in the opening period.
Cinnaminson 17, Delran 6 - Two first-quarter touchdown passes by Michael Gallo (13 for 17, 142 yards passing) ignited Cinnaminson's victory at Delran (3-7, 0-5).
