Jake Schulze struck out three straight batters to get out of a seventh-inning jam and give host
Woodstown its first title since 1997 in the Lee Ware Baseball Tournament yesterday.
In the Wolverines' 8-7 championship win over
Clearview, winning pitcher Sam Oliver went six innings but loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh. Schulze, who also went 3 for 4, walked the first batter he faced before retiring the side.
Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic. Quinton Miller (4-1) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and also doubled in the final run of
Shawnee's 3-1 win over
Bishop Eustace at Deptford. Anthony Montefusco lined the game-winning two-run single.
Cherry Hill West's 5-0 shutout of
Maple Shade was a two-hit complete game by Vince Voiro (4-1) at Deptford. Matt Speakman poked three hits and knocked in three runs.
West Deptford advanced with a 4-1 victory over
Pennsville at Maple Shade. Brett Henning threw a complete game and Scott Jakubowski singled in a run.
At
Overbrook,
Williamstown ousted the host Rams, 9-4, as Brandon Porter and Matt Barr each hit two-run homers.
Bear-Flash Cup. Will Murray homered, drove in two runs, scored three and stole two bases while helping
Delran take the cup for the second straight year, 12-6, over visiting
Florence.
Track and Field
Palmyra, Holy Cross and host
Northern Burlington each won team titles at the Burlington County League division championships.
Northern, which won the Liberty Division dual-meet title for the first time in 40 years last week, added the championship-meet trophy by beating
Moorestown by 20 points.
The Greyhounds were paced by wins from Mike Bowden in the 3,200 meters (10 minutes, 7.24 seconds), Chris Tomori in the 400 hurdles (57.43), and Blake Campbell in the triple jump (40 feet, 1/4 inch), while Moorestown's Bryan Burnham won the 100 (11.06), 200 (22.58) and long jump (20-11).
In the Patriot Division,
Holy Cross' win featured Frank Allen's double in the shot put (52-41/2) and discus (150-8), and Rich Fisher (50.24 400) and Matt Cusack (4:36.00 1,600) each won an event and ran on the 4x400 relay.
Palmyra edged
Florence by 13 points in the Freedom Division. The Panthers' Warren Oliver won the high jump (6-4) and javelin (165-5).
