S. Jersey Boys: Delran triumphs to wrap up a winning season

Delran finished its winningest boys' basketball season in eight years with a 73-64 Burlington County League victory over visiting Northern Burlington last night.

The Bears (13-11) bolted to a 24-13 first-quarter lead and were helped offensively by 24-for-34 foul shooting and by Will Murray's 17 points.

Also in Burlington County, senior T.J. DiLeo hit five three-pointers in a 44-point game that put him over 1,000 career points for Cinnaminson, and Palmyra's Quron Pratt (17) also eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau during the host Pirates' 101-63 win.

DiLeo has 1,004 career points while helping his team crack the century mark but fall well short of the 1991 school record of 124 points, and Pratt, a junior, has 1,001 career points.

Westampton Tech dealt host Riverside a 70-34 setback behind Kemaal Brooks' 24 points, three assists and three rebounds, plus Bryant Watts' 16 points and six boards.

Medford Tech's Antwuan Rowe and Brian Nelson combined for 28 points, offsetting a 23-point game by Burlington City's Kris Corry and boosting the visiting Jaguars to a 68-66 win.

Colonial. The league championship belongs to Collingswood after the Panthers ran past host Audubon, 66-28. Darnell McCargo scored 23 points for Collingswood.

In a game that was tied, 36-36, entering the final period, West Deptford pulled away to beat visiting Haddon Heights, 59-45. A.J. Greenwald scored half of his 26 points in the fourth quarter for the Eagles.

Tri-County. On Senior Night at Overbrook, Rams senior Reggie Jackson piled up 11 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds to fuel an 87-74 win over Cumberland.

All five Salem scorers reached double figures in a 78-70 win over visiting Penns Grove, including Quayshun Morris with 30 points and 15 rebounds, and Shamar Gilbert with 13 points and nine assists.

Howie Ryan saved nine of his game-high 26 points for a 25-7 fourth quarter that let Schalick pull away from host Clayton for a 67-48 win.

Gloucester Catholic rallied from a 21-20 halftime deficit to beat visiting Delsea, 65-51, as Mike Calzonetti, who grabbed nine rebounds, saved 10 of his 17 points for the second half.

Olympic. Mike Stafford scored 14 points to close within 13 of 1,000 for his career, and supported Will Campbell's 22-point performance as Paul VI defeated host Bishop Eustace, 65-52.

Cape-Atlantic. Atlantic City handed host St. Augustine its sixth loss, 70-63, as Mujahid McBride scored 10 of his 18 points in an 18-11 third-quarter comeback, and Khalif Toombs finished with 17 points. The Hermits got 10 rebounds each from Josh Thompson and Bill Giberson.

Nonleague. Chris Gebhart's 20 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots aided Cherry Hill West's 65-59 victory over visiting Moorestown Friends.

Timber Creek senior Tyler Hines went over 1,000 points for his career by scoring 26 in a 94-50 win over visiting Apex Academy, boosting his career total to 1,005.

Hammonton's Travis Washington also became a member of the 1,000-point club with a 25-point game, but host Holy Cross spoiled the occasion with a 55-53 win. The Lancers' Justin Swidowski scored 24 points.

Visiting Pemberton earned a 67-56 win over Lenape as Tyquan Curtis tossed in 24 points and David Thompson added 14.

More than 6,000 breast cancer survivors had a "Parade in Pink" down the art museum steps to kick off the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure on Sunday morning. The Mother's Day event drew 45,000 walkers, joggers and runners to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
