Senior Marcus Valentine, a standout defensive end from Winslow Township High, yesterday made an oral commitment to attend Towson University on a football scholarship, his high school coach, Mike McBride, announced.
Valentine, who is also a key member of Winslow's highly regarded basketball team, selected Towson over Cincinnati, Massachusetts and Hofstra.
"He has a lot of family in that part of Maryland and he's only about 11/2 hours from here, so that played a part in his decision," McBride said. "Plus, Towson has three other [former] Winslow kids there" - John Webb, Khalil Rice and Kenny Scott - "and he's familiar with the players and the setting."
McBride added that Julian Talley, Winslow's standout receiver, probably will choose among Bowling Green, Massachusetts, Hofstra and Minnesota.
