La Salle has hired Penn Charter baseball coach David Miller to take over the program at 20th and Olney.

Miller makes the move after five years at the Inter-Ac League school, which he led to much success. The Quakers won 84 games in his time there, including 26 this past season. They were ranked in USA Today's national top 25 for a time, reaching as high as No. 14.

"David Miller impressed us with his experiences in player development and as a coach at different levels," La Salle athletic director Bill Bradshaw said in a statement. "David has a proven track record as an instructor and has shown that he can recruit at a high level. As a coach, he has developed a unique ability to connect with his players as a Division I assistant and head coach of a highly respected Penn Charter program."

Before his time at Penn Charter, Miller was an assistant coach at Villanova. Among the Wildcats' players at that time was Matt Szczur, who went on to play for the Chicago Cubs.

"David Miller played a big part in my development as a player at Villanova," Szczur said. "He cared about me and about every player he coached. The relationship with his players, along with his baseball knowledge and passion for the game, will make him a great coach for La Salle."

Miller played high school baseball at Chestnut Hill Academy and college baseball at Clemson. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1995, and spent seven years in the minor leagues. The farthest he got was the team's triple-A affiliate.
