Friday's Pa. high school football recap: Rounding up the action in opening night

Friday’s opening night got off to a roaring start for the Falcons as Pottsgrove erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit on Isaiah Taylor’s 2-yard touchdown run and successful conversion with 36 seconds remaining to edge West Catholic, 15-14. Jay Sisko punched in a 1-yard touchdown for the Falcons earlier in the fourth quarter.

Barry Brown’s fourth-quarter 12-yard touchdown run proved to be the difference in Academy Park’s 28-21 triumph over Pennsbury. Devon Cover’s interception with less than two minutes left sealed the win for the Knights. Covert added a 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Sean Mullarkey rushed for a 41-yard touchdown and hooked up with Matt Rosato for 46- and 10-yard touchdowns as Radnor defeated Upper Merion, 31-23. Teddy Girton intercepted two passes for the Raiders.

Shane Langston’s 23-yard touchdown scamper with less than eight minutes remaining gave Interboro a 23-15 victory over Strath Haven.

Ryan Cassidy connected with Jack Scott and Michael Gray through the air to lead West Chester East over Council Rock North, 27-14.

Julz Kelly rushed for 128 yards and five first-half touchdowns in Sun Valley’s 54-13 victory over Penncrest. Kelly scored his sixth touchdown in the third quarter. Tazuan Thomas added a 54-yard touchdown run for the Vanguards.

Desman Johnson Jr. went 10-for-16 for 216 yards and two touchdowns as Penn Wood defeated Souderton, 42-10. Johnson added 31 more rushing yards and two touchdowns. Michael Dargan Jr. added a 47-yard run to extend the Patriots’ lead to 18 late in the third quarter.

Josiah Wiggins’ 62-yard touchdown run highlighted a four-touchdown performance as Pottstown upended Octorara, 26-6. Jorge Mundo caught Wiggins’ lone throwing touchdown of the game.

Russell Minor-Shaw threw for three touchdowns as Archbishop Carroll rolled past Olney, 42-8. Koran Butler caught two scores of 33 and 32 yards for the Patriots. Josh Bowman added two rushing touchdowns for the victors.

Charles Britt and Marlon White each rushed for touchdowns as Northeast shut out Abington, 20-0.

Mike Slivka completed two first-quarter touchdown passes to Brody Balasa and Selvin Haynes to lead Upper Dublin past Norristown, 28-7. Lucas Roselli rushed for two scores, including a 60-yard scamper, for the Cardinals.

Jack Neri connected with Luke Benson on a 31-yard touchdown pass in Central Bucks West’s 21-0 win over Hatboro-Horsham. Jack Fallon opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown catch from Gavin Grondahl. Garrett Hitchens rumbled for a 2-yard score for the Bucks.

Jamie Moccia piled up 149 rushing yards, 53 receiving yards, and four touchdowns in the first half as Boyertown defeated Upper Perkiomen, 37-12. Moccia’s longest score came on a 71-yard run.

Marlon Weathers and Brian Joslin rushed for two touchdowns apiece as Marple Newtown took down KIPP DuBois, 43-0. Jake Simpson had an interception for a touchdown for the Tigers.

Daquan Robinson threw for three touchdowns and ran for one in Martin Luther King’s 26-0 win over Wissahickon. Isaiah Allen caught two touchdowns, while Tyrell Mims caught another.
