Friday's Pennsylvania roundup: Garnet Valley stuns North Penn with massive 28-point comeback

Garnet Valley overcame a 28-point third quarter deficit Friday to shock North Penn, 36-35, in the District 1 Class 6A Quarterfinals.

Nick Gallagher's 23-yard strike to Danny Guy brought Garnet Valley within one with 46 seconds left. Gallagher followed by punching in the 2-point conversion to cap off the comeback. Guy and Gallagher combined for three more rushing touchdowns. North Penn's Steve Depaul hooked up Justis Henley for four passing touchdowns. Garnet Valley advances to play Pennridge.

Pennridge 25, Perkioman Valley 0

The No. 7 seeded Rams scored two touchdowns within 25 seconds in the third quarter to pull away from the No. 2 seeded Vikings in District 1 Class 6A Quarterfinals action. A perfectly executed onsides kick set up the latter score, a 44-yard passing touchdown from Zak Kantor to Kyle Schetter. Kantor threw two other touchdowns to Joe Devine and Nick Tarburton. Pennridge plays Garnet Valley Friday.

Marple-Newtown 24, Upper Moreland 18

Marlon Weathers had more than 145 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the 7-seeded Tigers held off the 2-seeded Golden Bears in the District 1 Class 5A Quarterfinals. Weathers' second touchdown came from 30-yards out, giving Marple-Newtown a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter. Anthony Paoletti hit Alden Mathes for a score in the second quarter. The Tigers will travel to Unionville Friday.

Upper Dublin 17, Academy Park 12

Julian Gimbel's 4-yard run gave the Cardinals an 11-point they wouldn't relinquish in the District 1 Class 5A Quarterfinals. Upper Dublin returned a fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter. Academy Park pulled within five with just under four minutes left after a fumble return of their own. The Cardinals square off against Springfield (D) Friday.

Springfield (D) 28, West Chester Rustin 7

Jack Psenicska threw a pair scores to Kyle Long and Frank Durham, a 34-yard strike, to lead the Cougars over the Golden Knights in the District 1 Class 5A Quarterfinals. Long caught another touchdown pass from Durham on a half back pass. Springfield (D) will take on Upper Dublin Friday.

Coatesville 61, Downingtown East 35

Avery and Aaron Young combined for three touchdowns as the Red Raiders rolled past the Cougars in District 1 Class 6A Quarterfinals action. Brassir Stocker added an 85-yard touchdown run along with Dapree Bryant's 5-yard scamper. Quarterback Rickey Ortega connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Kahtero Summers to open the scoring. Coatesville will play upset-minded Pennsbury Friday.

Unionville 39, Strath Haven 8

Dante Graham accounted for three touchdowns as the Indians defeated the Panthers handily in the District 1 Class 5A Quarterfinals. Unionville will host Marple-Newtown Friday.

Conwell-Egan 42, New Hope-Solebury 14

The Eagles pounded in five rushing touchdowns to beat New Hope-Solebury in the District 1/12 Class 3A Semifinals. Alex Goldsby rushed for touchdowns of 50 and 17 yards. DaJuan Harris added a 52-yard run for the victors. Conwell-Egan plays the winner of Lansdale Catholic and High School of the Future Friday.

Pottsgrove 38, Upper Perkioman 14

Rahsul Faison rushed for two touchdowns to lift the Falcons over the Indians in District 1 Class 4A Final.

Field Hockey

Maddie Rehak scored a pair of goals in the second half to lift Episcopal Academy over Agnes Irwin, 2-1. Kelly Smith tallied an assist for the Churchwomen.

Girls’ Soccer

Olivia Dirks and Lauren Rodio each scored first-half goals as Agnes Irwin blanked Episcopal Academy, 2-0. Anna Salvucci and Hailee Moran distributed assists. Hannah Moriarty earned the shutout in net.
