With Jamal Abdur-Rahman contributing in just about every way possible, La Salle turned the tables on George Washington and claimed the PIAA District 12 Class AAAA championship with a 31-20 victory today at Northeast High's Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium.
Abdur-Rahman, a junior, intercepted two passes at cornerback and returned a second-quarter fumble 36 yards for a touchdowwn. On offense, the tailback caught a 44-yard TD pass from Drew Loughery on the final play of the third quarter to increase La Salle's lead to 31-20. He carried 15 times for 42 yards.
Next for the Explorers is a state quarterfinal playoff versus the winner of tonight's game between District 11 rivals Easton (11-1) and Parkland (10-2). That contest will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.
For Washington, which finished with an 8-3 record, quarterback Aaron Wilmer ran 17 times for 141 yards and threw a pair of TD passes. He passed 16-for-28 for 166 yards.
