High school football star gunned down in Camden
Jameer Bullard, 18, a Woodrow Wilson High football player, was shot and killed in Camden, N.J.
A high school football star was gunned down in Camden early Saturday.
Camden police were alerted to the shooting shortly before 12:30 a.m. through the city's ShotSpotter gunfire-detection system, according to a news release from the county prosecutor's office.
Arriving officers found Jameer Bullard, 18, on the sidewalk along the 1200 block of Mechanic Street, in the Gateway section.
He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where he died about a half-hour later.
A high school junior, Bullard was an inside linebacker for Woodrow Wilson and had received a recruitment offer from Temple University, according to ESPN.com.
Friends and teammates took to social media to mourn his passing.
Bullard's death marked Camden's eighth recorded homicide of the year. He is the city's youngest murder victim since April 2014, when 15-year-old Troy Anderson was shot and killed while walking home from school.
Police reported no arrest Saturday. There wasn't word on a suspect or motive, and an investigation into the shooting remained ongoing.
