ANC tops Imhotep in Kobe Bryant/Rally Classic

            Leaning heavily on 6-foot-9 forward Rakeem Christmas, who produced a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, Academy of the New Church turned back Imhotep Charter, 62-54, Saturday in the 11th annual Philly.Com/Rally Classic at Archbishop Carroll High.     

            The Lions (8-4 overall, 2-1 Friends Schools League) took command with a 12-1 run at the end of the second quarter.

            Senior combination guard Warren Gillis contributed 12 points (seven in the fourth quarter), six assists, five rebounds and five steals. Sophomore swingman Savon Goodman chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

            The Panthers (11-2; 9-0 Public League) were paced by junior guard Ameen Tanksley’s 18 points. Junior guard Terrell Johnson hit four three-pointers en route to 15 points.

            Imhotep junior point guard David Appolon missed the contest because of a family funeral.
