Hartford wins Temple golf tourney
Hartford's Evan Russell, whose opening-round 62 was believed to be a competitive course record at Philmont Country Club, followed with a 2-under-par 68 Sunday to win the individual championship of the Temple Invitational golf tournament and lead the Hawks to the team title.
Hartford, which won the Big Five Invitational at the same course last year, carded a 2-over score of 562 for a 15-stroke win over St. John's. In addition to Russell at 130, Hartford had another player, Anthony Vecchiarelli (69), who finished under par for 36 holes at 138, good for second place.
Dylan Crowley of St. John's was third in the individual competition, shooting his second consecutive 70 for a 140 total.
Cincinnati was third in the team standings, with host Temple, Harvard, and Seton Hall tied for fourth. The Owls' Brandon Matthews (73) finished fourth at 141, followed by St. John's Obe Ayton (72-142).
West Chester (8-3) got two goals and two assists from Kelsi Lykens in a 6-3 win over host Ursinus in the 67th annual Snell Cup game.
