Salem reaches S.J. Group 1 football final
Salem shut out Woodbury, 42-0, Saturday afternoon in a South Jersey Group 1 football semifinal. Salem running back Jonathan Taylor ran for 362 yards and five touchdowns. All of Taylor's five scoring runs were of 30 or more yards, two were longer than 60. On the defensive side, the visiting Rams did their part by not only keeping the home team out of the end zone, but by forcing four turnovers, including an interception by none other than Taylor.

In the other Group 1 semifinal:
Paulsboro outlasted visiting Pennsville, 49-28. Despite trailing the whole game, Pennsville was able to come within one score of tying the game early in the second half. Ultimately, Paulsboro's high-powered offense, led by quarterback Kyle Jones and running back Dehron Holloway, was too much for the Eagles. The two linked up for a 55-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. the two combined for six touchdowns by game's end.
Paulsboro will face Salem in the South Jersey Group 1 final at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Rowan University.
South Jersey Group 2 Semifinal
Cedar Creek overcame an early deficit to come back and survive against visiting Willingboro, 27-26. Willingboro's missed extra point on the opening score of the game came back to haunt it, as the Chimeras were forced to attempt two-point conversions on three of their remaining scoring drives, failing twice.
The Pirates' Pat Moran, however, had no such problems with his own kicking. He converted all three of his extra-point attempts, and nailed two field goal attempts from more than 35 yards out. With under a minute left in the game, Willingboro's Amir Murray was able to punch it in on a 14-yard scoring run, which would set up the Pirates' defensive stand on the two-point attempt, sealing the win for Cedar Creek.
Cedar Creek advances to play West Deptford in the South Jersey Group 2 Championship at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at Rowan.
