Merion Mercy knocks off Villa Maria in field hockey playoffs

Top-seeded Villa Maria, which won the last two district championships and the 2014 state championship, had just two losses this season, both at the hands of the Golden Bears. Merion Mercy will move on to the District 1 2A final against Mount St. Joseph on Monday at Methacton.

Friends Schools League championship. Rachel Fink scored the deciding goal in the first half of Academy New Church's 1-0 win over Moorestown Friends at Shipley. The win marks the fifth straight Friends Schools League title for the Lions.

Girls' Soccer

Penn-Jersey League championship. Tania Bryant scored a goal in New Foundations Charter's 2-1 overtime win against Doane Academy at Westampton Sports Complex.

Inter-Ac League. Gia DeMarco netted two goals in Penn Charter's 2-1 win against host Baldwin.

Boys' Soccer

Max Jacobs scored two goals as Penn Charter edged out visiting Springside Chestnut Hill, 2-1, in overtime.
