Cinnaminson rolls over Holy Cross, 22-0

After the game, Shaun Davilla talked about the variety of weapons at his disposal - the chemistry and the athleticism of his Cinnaminson football team.

He talked about what it's like to go for it on fourth-and-long. And he talked about why, when he gets the chance, he walks to the huddle with a smile on his face.

"I tell to the team to clock in," the senior quarterback said, "because this is where we make our money."

Davilla, an elite athlete himself, threw two touchdown passes on fourth down Friday night - including one on an acrobatic catch by Andrew Goshine off a broken play on 4th and goal from the 25 - in a decisive 22-0 win at Holy Cross.

"We've been talking all week about how this is just another game, but it's not," Davilla said. "I had a bad taste in my mouth from last year."

This was Cinnaminson's first win over Holy Cross since 2013. Last year, the Pirates coughed up a three-touchdown halftime lead and lost 34-33.

The loss was clearly motivation for a Cinnaminson team that played with notably more fire than its opponent throughout the game. Ultimately, Holy Cross (1-2) didn't have the speed to keep up, and the Pirates (3-0) ran away with the game.

"We knew it was going to be a battle," Cinnaminson coach Mario Patrizi said after a win that could go a long way in deciding the West Jersey Football League Liberty Division. "They took us out a lot of things in the first half. But we adjusted. I'm proud of this team."

Davilla finished with 133 yards rushing on 16 carries while completing 6 of 13 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.

He also intercepted a pass in the third quarter and followed it up two plays later with 49-yard scramble up the middle.

After allowing Holy Cross to throw for 58 yards through in the first half, the Pirates turned away all six of Holy Cross' pass attempts in a dominant second half.

"Our defense came up huge," Patrizi said. "We covered in the second half. We were going into a little bit of cover-1, cover-0 early. But we got out of that, and it helped us."

Cinnaminson took a 6-0 lead when Davilla hit Rashad Raymond on a 12-yard slant pass for a on fourth and 5 with with 1 minute, 57 seconds left in the first quarter. Raymond had to make a tough adjustment on low-thrown ball, which only backed up the confidence Davilla has in his receivers.

Goshine's touchdown reception was the play of the game. The Pirates were facing 4th and goal from the 25 before a scrambling Davilla hit Goshine at the five yard line. Goshine, who also finished with 9 carries for 83 yards and a rushing touchdown, caught the ball over two defenders with his back to the end zone before taking off to his right side, cutting forward and beating the defense to the goal line.

"That's just not giving up on the play," Goshine said. "On a team like this, it's easy to make big plays."
