Wissahickon's Tran takes tennis crown
Wissahickon freshman Andrew Tran won the Suburban One American boys' tennis singles championship on Saturday at The Healthplex Sports Club in Springfield.
Wissahickon freshman Andrew Tran won the Suburban One American boys' tennis singles championship on Saturday at The Healthplex Sports Club in Springfield.
Tran faced fellow Trojan Ben Wolfe, a senior, in the final and rallied from one set behind to defeat his teammate, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
The elder Trojan defeated Bryan Szayna of Upper Dublin in the first semifinal while Tran defeated Josh Victor of Cheltenham in the other.
Wolfe entered the tournament as the two-time defending champion. Both players will advance to the PIAA District 1 playoffs next weekend.
Baseball
Blake Rodack picked up the save and hit a two-out RBI single to help host Shipley to a 6-3 nonleague victory over Prep Charter.
Brady Devereaux pitched seven innings and earned the win as host Malvern Prep defeated Marple Newtown, 2-1.
