Wrestler of the year / 113 pounds

Matt Parker, Pennridge, junior

Last season, Matt Parker, who finished 45-4, just wanted a chance to compete with the best at Hershey's Giant Center.

He put together a sparkling sophomore campaign, taking first at sectionals, districts and regionals after failing to place at the South East Regional tournament as a freshman. Parker finished the 2014-15 season with 32 wins and only three losses as he placed fifth in his first state tournament.

This year, with more experience, Parker had his eyes on a bigger prize.

He swept sectionals, districts and regionals for the second year in a row en route to a second straight state tournament appearance.

Parker's journey led him all the way to the 113-pound final, but his dream of becoming a state champion was thwarted by Northampton freshman Julian Chlebove (43-2) in a 3-0 decision.

Joining Boyertown's 285-pound senior Tommy Killoran (42-8), Parker was one of only two wrestlers from District 1 to appear in this year's state championship bouts. Killoran fell to Bethlehem Liberty's Andrew Gunning, 2-1, in the heavyweight final.

106

Shane Hanson-Ashworth, Malvern Prep, freshman

The only freshman on this year's first team, Hanson-Ashworth (43-7) placed eighth at the Beast of the East and won the 106-pound championship at Pennsylvania Prep states before placing second at the National Prep Championships.

120

Hunter Mitch, Spring-Ford, senior

After posting two straight seasons with 15-plus losses, Mitch (35-9) saved his best for last. The Spring-Ford senior placed second at sectionals and first at districts and regionals en route to his first state tournament appearance.

126

Wade Cummings, Downingtown East, senior

Cummings (47-4) became a staple at states throughout his illustrious high school career, making three straight appearances after failing to place at regionals as a freshman. The Downingtown East senior surpassed 40 wins for a fourth straight season and placed fifth in his final state tournament.

132

Zack Trampe, Council Rock South, junior

Trampe (47-4) followed up a 45-win sophomore campaign with his third sectional championship, second district championship, first South East Regional championship and a sixth-place finish at states. The Council Rock South junior lost a hard-fought 5-3 decision to Hazleton Area junior James Hoffman in the state championship semifinals.

138

Colin Cronin, Upper Darby, junior

Cronin (42-3) won sectionals and districts for a second straight year but suffered his only regular-season loss to Council Rock South's Riley Palmer, a member of the second team, in the regional final. The Upper Darby junior reached the 40-win plateau for the first time in his career and placed fourth at states.

145

Lucas Martoccio, Council Rock South, junior

Martoccio (45-13) capitalized on two consecutive 30-win seasons by placing third at regionals and making his first ever state tournament appearance. The last of the three Martoccio brothers to come through Council Rock South, Lucas Martoccio joined older brothers Matt Martoccio and Dan Martoccio as state placers by finishing fourth.

152

Chase Stephens, Coatesville, junior

Stephens (40-4) surpassed 40 wins for a second consecutive season as he won back-to-back sectional and district championships on his way to placing seventh in the state. Only a junior, Stephens has accumulated 113 career wins.

160

Josh Stillings, Pennridge, sophomore

Stillings (44-9) improved upon a 39-12 freshman campaign by placing first at sectionals, districts and regionals on his way to becoming a two-time state qualifier. After failing to place at last year's state tournament, the Pennridge sophomore placed fourth in 2015-16.

170

Steve Rice, Spring-Ford, senior

Rice (39-6) bounced back from a 15-loss season a year ago to win his first district title this season. After taking second at regionals, the Spring-Ford senior advanced to states for a second straight year and finished seventh.

182

Kyle Gentile, Pennridge, senior

A three-time champion at sectionals, districts and regionals, Gentile (44-4) has reached the state tournament in every year save his freshman season. The Pennridge senior, who amassed 162 career wins, placed third in the state this season. He defeated second-team honoree Mike Beard of Malvern Prep by 7-2 decision at the Beast of the East championship finals in December.

195

Anthony Piscopo, La Salle, senior

The only wrestler from District 12 on this year's first team, Piscopo (34-4) rallied from a district-final loss to South Philadelphia's Miles Lee (27-3) by making his first state tournament appearance and placing third. Piscopo bested second-team honoree Joe Doyle of Council Rock South by 2-1 decision in the third-place state final.

220

Seth Janney, Malvern Prep, junior

A year removed from wrestling for South Western and taking second in Hershey, Janney (43-6) placed first at the National Prep Championships as a junior for Malvern Prep. Janney, who ranks in the top 10 nationally, placed fourth at Ironman and second at Escape the Rock en route to a career-high 43 wins.

285

Tommy Killoran

Boyertown, senior

Killoran (42-8) joined Pennridge junior Matt Parker as the only wrestlers from District 1 to appear in this year's state finals. Both suffered the same fate, however, as Killoran and Parker each placed second. After competing on junior varsity as a sophomore, the Boyertown senior posted back-to-back 42-win seasons to finish his high school career.
