Pa. girls: Friends' Central claims 2d straight Friends Schools title

But that didn't stop the Phoenix from capturing its second championship in as many seasons.

Leading the way in the 35-32 win at Haverford College was Mikayla Vaughn, as the junior forward posted 13 points and pulled down 12 boards.

Vaughn is ranked as the seventh-ranked forward in the nation by ESPN, along with being rated as its 31st overall prospect in the nation.

Nia Jordan scored 12 points and Iyanna McCurdy scored 10 points.

District One AAAA First Round. Garnet Valley's Emily McAteer played in her first District One Playoff game, and performed like a veteran in a 60-45 win over visiting Oxford. The freshman scored a season-high 28 points - including 12 in the fourth quarter - and added seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Maddie Ireland scored 15 points and added two each of steals and assists for the Jaguars.

Public AAAA Semifinals. Maddie Schwartz posted 12 points, along with four steals and five assists, as Franklin Towne Charter downed visiting Girls High, 48-28. Olivia Keyes added seven points and Jenna Rand scored six points.

Rneushia Williams scored a team-high 11 points as Central rolled Simon Gratz, 37-15. Amber Dilks and Taylor Viz each scored seven points for the Lancers.

Public AAA Semifinals. Samirra Howard-Williams scored 16 points for host Audenried in a 58-50 win over Palumbo. Jaquay Williams scored 14 points and Denijsha Wilson scored 10 points for the Rockets.

Mastery North's Shaquaya Matthews led the hosts with 15 points in a 47-15 rout of Bartram. Devia Terry added seven points.

Public AA Semifinals. Sabrina Rivera scored 10 points and added seven steals for host Bodine, in a 52-37 win over Philadelphia Academy Charter. Tiana Garvin led the Ambassadors, scoring 17 points.

Bionca Dunham scored a team-high 17 points in Imhotep's 68-34 win over visiting Sayre. Deja Williams scored 13 points and Shadera Jenkins scored 12 points for the Panthers.

Public A Semifinals. Salina Jones scored 12 of her team-leading 25 points in the second quarter of New Media Charter's 68-49 over host Math, Civics and Sciences. Ebony Bradford scored 16 points and Jakyra Stamps scored 14 points for the Mighty Elephants.

Motivation's Ziariah Hameen-Grant scored 15 points and had 10 steals in a 44-13 win against visiting Parkway North. Shana Ross posted four points and seven rebounds.

Public League. Jada Lim led Maritime Academy to a 36-23 home-victory over Randolph, scoring 18 points. Sameerah Jones added 11 points.

Ricreeda Malcolm scored 21 points for Randolph.

Mastbaum's Amaiya James totaled 12 points, six steals and a pair of blocks as the visitors cruised to a 39-20 win at Penn Treaty. Bionna Exum led the Panthers, scoring 13 points.

Jaelyn Henry scored 15 points as Rush downed Tacony, 34-19. Sara Rodriguez added eight points for the visitors.

Nonleague. Danielle Hammond paced Baldwin past host Germantown Friends, 37-19. She posted 14 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. Morgan Montoute grabbed eight rebounds and scored four points for the Tigers.

Swimming

Katharine Buliga placed first in the 200 yard freestyle, as Archbishop Wood finished day one of the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships. Buliga finished in just over two minutes and one second.

The Vikings led Archbishop Ryan by 87 points at the end of the first day of two-day event hosted by La Salle University.

Wood placed first in the pair of relays - the 200- yard medley and the 200- yard freestyle, with Buliga racing in the latter.
