Central Bucks West coach Terry Rakowsky accurately summed up his team's game against Upper Dublin.

"There were a lot of missed shots," he said. "It was like, 'Which team is going to give it away?' "

Of the countless mistakes, the Bucks made fewer than the Cardinals and survived, 28-25, in a Suburban One League girls' basketball playoff semifinal Saturday afternoon at Council Rock North.

C.B. West trailed, 25-24, in the final minute. Maggie Rakowsky's left-side jumper with 32 seconds remaining and Makenzie Mason's layup, coming off an inbounds pass, proved to be the difference in the especially sloppy affair.

With 1 minute, 10 seconds to go, freshman guard Tori Abelson's steal and layup gave the Bucks a 24-23 edge. The Cardinals' Allison Chernow answered with two free throws at 0:47.

"I just try to play hard defense on every possession and bring as much energy as I can to the team," Abelson said.

C.B. West, the defending champ of the four-team tournament that was established last year, will face Suburban One Continental Conference rival North Penn for the title at 6 p.m. Monday at Bensalem.

In the earlier semifinal at C.R. North, North Penn sprinted to a 13-0 lead and held off Neshaminy, 44-39.

Maggie Rakowsky, a junior point guard and the coach's daughter, spurred the youth-laden Bucks (18-5) with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Mason, a 5-11 senior forward, was next in line with nine points, eight rebounds, and a block. Abelson chipped in nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal for the defending PIAA District 1 Class 4A champs.

Chernow, a senior guard, paced Upper Dublin (18-6) with seven points and two assists. Junior wing Josie Barrett had five points and three rebounds.
