Pa. boys and girls: Hunter, Champion lead Friends' Central past Malvern Prep

This time next year, De'Andre Hunter and Chuck Champion will be suiting up for Division I programs.

Luckily for Friends' Central, the duo still has one more season of high school boys' basketball.

Champion scored 26 points and Hunter put up 24 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday to lead the Phoenix to an 81-78 nonleague victory at Malvern Prep.

Champion is bound for Loyola (Md.). Hunter has committed to Virginia.

Antone Walker added 19 points and seven assists.

Will Powers led Malvern Prep with 26 points.

In other nonleague action:

Mason Williams scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter as host Penn Charter turned away neighborhood rival Germantown Friends, 52-45. Williams also had five rebounds. The Quakers held GFS, which led by four at halftime, without a field goal in the third quarter. Mike Buckmire scored 21 points for Germantown Friends.

Sam Sessoms scored 19 of his game-high 34 points in the second half to send Shipley to a 62-55 home win over Haverford School. It was his third straight game of at least 20 points.

Nick Alikakos paired 26 points with 10 rebounds to power visiting Episcopal Academy past Abington Friends, 82-43. Kyle Sacchetta added 21 points, four steals and three assists. Conner Delaney had 13 points and nine assists.

Girls' Basketball

Hannah Fox scored 23 points to lead Penn Charter to a 60-59 nonleague victory over visiting Friends' Central.

Mikayla Vaughn had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Friends' Central.

Also in nonleague play, Eunice Jimenez had 14 points, four steals and three assists to lead Westtown to a 38-25 win over visiting Christian Academy. Her sister, Naomi Jimenez, also scored 14.
