West Catholic made an emphatic return to the state playoffs Saturday, roaring past New Hope-Solebury, 55-14, in a PIAA Class AA first-round game at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Craig Jones did much of the early damage for the Catholic League AA champs. He turned just six touches into 211 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Jones rushed for a 31-yard touchdown and had a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter as the Burrs built a 41-0 halftime lead on the District 1 winners.

The interception return was Jones' seventh return touchdown of the season. He had what would have been his eighth - a long punt return - called back on a penalty. He also had two catches for 91 yards.

Joshua Evans completed 6 of 13 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns. The balanced Burrs (9-4), who have won eight of their last nine games, compiled 469 yards of offense.

On defense, Justin Bryant led the Burrs with nine tackles.

The Burrs will play Dunmore of District 2 on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Northern Lehigh High School.
