Haddonfield's DePersia is MVP of Carino Basketball Classic

Rob DePersia of Haddonfield was named Most Valuable Player of the winning West team Sunday in the 38th annual Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey senior all-star game at Rutgers Camden.

Rob DePersia of Haddonfield was named Most Valuable Player of the winning West team Sunday in the 38th annual Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey senior all-star game at Rutgers Camden.

DePersia (17 points), a lead guard, was one of eight players who scored in double figures as the West registered a 160-143 victory over the East in one of the highest-scoring games in the history of the annual game.

Lindenwold swingman Malik Muldrow led all scorers with 21 for the West squad.

Eastern guard Justin Fendrick (18), Cherry Hill West forward Can Oztamur (18), Camden guard Rasool Hinson (15) Cherry Hill East guard Jake Silpe (12), Haddon Heights guard Lucian Brownlee (11) and Holy Spirit forward Jordan Taylor (10) also scored in double figures for the West squad.

Schalick forward Mike Holloway was named MVP of the East squad. He scored 16 points.

St. Joseph's swingman B.J. Mitchell (17), Kingsway guard Marcus Robinson (16), Holy Spirit guard John Middleton (14) and Paulsboro forward Saleem Little (10) scored in double figures for the East squad.

Westampton Tech guard LaMarr Morgan won the three-point shooting contest at halftime. Morgan scored nine points during the game for the East squad.
