S.J. boys and girls: St. Augustine captures Cape-Atlantic League title

St. Augustine captured its eighth Cape-Atlantic League title, and first since 2011, with a 71-60 triumph over Holy Spirit at Stockton College on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Sa'eed Nelson paced the Hermits with 27 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Justyn Mutts scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Tri-County Classic. Gloucester Catholic's Matt Green contributed from the inside and the outside in the host Rams' 68-23 win over Pitman. The senior forward scored 13 points and connected four times from beyond the arc. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

Senior guard Austin Regan finished with six rebounds and three assists, and senior forward Keanu Kelli had five rebounds for the host Rams.

Luke Castagna scored eight points for the visitors.

Tri-County Royal. Highland dropped host Triton, 83-48, behind Naquan Council's five three-pointers. Council, a senior shooting guard, scored 25 points and had nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Sophomore guard Christian Scafidi collected a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds for the visitors. He also had three assists and two blocks.

Point guard Aaron Bailey (16) and shooting guard Mike Wright (13) scored in double figures for the hosts.

Nonleague. Sophomore guard Caleb Bowser's 21 points paced Timber Creek in it's 85-70 home victory against Lindenwold. Randy Bell (14), Maurice Murray (13), Justin Thompson (11), and Dikenba Amugo also scored in double figures for the hosts.

Girls' Basketball

Top-seeded Ocean City downed No. 2 Lower Cape May in the Cape-Atlantic League final at Stockton College, 34-26, to clinch its fourth league crown.

Senior small forward Olivia Briggs paced the Red Raiders with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior center Sierra Schoenewald grabbed 14 rebounds.

Senior forward and Fordham recruit Lauren Holden led Lower Cape May with 11 points.

Tri-County Classic. Gloucester Catholic rolled past host Pitman, 63-23, behind junior guard Mary Gedaka's game-high 14 points. Maggie McIntyre drained three three-pointers.

Tri-County Royal. Junior point guard Samantha Stone dropped 18 points in Triton's 45-36 victory at Highland. Sophomore guard Layne Olsen added 12 points.

Ayanna Bey scored 19 points for the Tartans. She also grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked two shots.
